So come April the HTC Desire will be released.
It looks great and packs a serious punch - it should certainly hold the crown for a little while.

However what are the general opinions on the Legend?
The main differences I'm seeing are a 600MHz CPU rather than the 1GHz Snapdragon.
Also less RAM.

Are these two things going to make the Legend a real dog when compared to the Desire?
If I'm buying then I'm buying SIM free and I can see there maybe nearly £100 difference between the two.
So is the Desire worth the extra?

Oh and what is the cheapest people have seen these phones for pre-order?
Links if possible (and as long as they aren't competitors).

I am kinda in the same boat as you.

I also really like the Legend, but in the end the Desire topped it for me.

Basically, it comes down to what you want the phone for? The way I see it, if it is for the apps, then the Desire would win simply because it is faster.

However, I wouldn't call the Legend a dog because of it. I think it will do fine.

So it all comes down to cost. And, if like me, you tend to keep your phones for at least 2 years, then £100 isn't really that much.

Also, I have read on some sites (not sure how reliable) that the 1GHz processor of the Desire really helps with Flash. Not sure how important that is or if it is even true.

I love the looks of the Legend, its the best looking phone out there bar non IMO, however, I love the power of the Desire/Nexus more :D [FYI Nexi are £400-450 when you buy from Google, depending on the exchange rate, so cheaper than most places are offering the Desire for ATM]

You can get the Desire for virtually free on contract with T-Mobile £25 a month and to me that's a decent price when you compare it to other phones, its a high spec phone that will easily keep you going for a few years a 1 gig CPU in a phone us crazy.

I guess its what you want from a phone but i think the extra speed in the desire will make it the right choice, having a milestone now i feel its pretty much the same specs as the Legend apart from the 3.7" screen now i updated to 2.1 i feel it lacks a bit of punch after seeing the videos of the Desire, the 1ghz cpu really makes the difference i think.

Legend
600mhz Qualcomm MSM7227
3.2 inch screen
320 x 480 Amo-led
RAM;capacity: 384 MiB
ROM_capacity: 512 MiB

Desire
1ghz Snapdragon
3.7 inch screen
480 x 800 Amo-led
512 MB or ROM
576 MB of RAM

Has anybody hears of devicewire.co.uk?
They claim to have the Desire on pre-order, SIM free for £390.

They sponsor Modaco who are one of the bigger modder communities for Android phones. So, while I've never used them, I don't think they are random fly by night scammers.

They have it only £10 more than the Legend. If that price difference was uniform then no one would buy the Legend, surely?

I was sceptical about how quick this phone would be after owning an HTC Magic for 6 months (virtually the same as the phone the Legend is replacing, the HTC Hero) but the vids I've seen of the Legend make it look rather fast. There's no slow down or lag anywhere. But personally I'd get a Desire for futureproofing/geek points.....or a Nexus One which is what I just got.
