Open beta this weekend. Suprisingly good actually!

This game is the spiritual successor to Ultima Online, in my opinion. While Shroud of the Avatar made that claim and had Richard Garriott involved, this game has many of UO's designers, and keeps the spirit of UO intact. Shroud tossed away much that was great about UO with an amazingly poor UI and dreadful combat which yanks the player away from an immersive roleplaying experience. I find Legends of Aria superior in most every way. It's old school, in the best of ways.

@Kainz might be worth a try mate..

Personally I have far too many early access games already to add another :) have shoved it on my steam wishlist to keen an eye on though!

I only played about an hour, but it reminded enough of UO to give it a go for $30.

Anyone else actually going to play? MMO's are no fun on your tod!

Dated looks, awful UI (in my opinion of course) put me off from the start. Things have moved on.

I get what you're saying. Did you play UO? Maybe I don't mind it all as it reminds me of great days in UO...

In fairness, no. I got into MMOs from WoW although I did play a little bit of the original EQ. I always heard great things about UO and other early games (DAOC in particular) but never played them. If this is a good game I'll certainly have another look as the wife and I are always looking for something new to get our teeth into.

Whilst I probably sunk more hours into WoW, it never came close to the feeling of freedom UO gave me. If this comes close then I'm in. The glowy green sword in the promo images put me off a bit though :D

No first person view? I played Ultima when Renaissance was released don't know it a 3rd view would sit well now in MMOs.
That’s part of the appeal in my opinion - 3rd person has been done to death so retaining the isometric style is risky but will appeal to the oldies who have pined for UO for the last decade!

i made a thief and was disappointed that i couldn't attempt to rob shops or other players, just like i did in UO. Im out.

I loved UO.

The Europa server and the Deepwater Guards.

Mages were overpowered but there was nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of PvP in that environment where you could literally lose everything and have the pleasure as a ghost of watching some other b*****d loot your corpse.

A mate of mine died to a mongbat whilst wearing full plate outside Moonglow having just completed a level 5 treasure map... Still like to remind him of it every now and again :D

Never under estimate the attack power of an Angry Mongbat:p
At one point I had a character who was running around with 5 pet mongbats trying to kill things (I had a tamer/jack who had an odd sense of humour).

I remember dying to so many silly things at different times in UO, I think a rabbit got me once..

Wait I just re-read that - Full plate?! Htf do you die to anything small wearing full plate?!
