Legion 5 pro, or 7?

right,
after much faffing about, i've decided it's not worth me waiting for the 2022 models of the lenovo legion 5 pro laptop to be released,

i'll be using it for 3D designing (fusion 360) mostly, and am going for a 'gaming laptop' as it seems to be the best for a high power machine, and lots of people recommend the legion 5 pro on here as a great all rounder laptop as it's just such great value for money.

i want a 2K resolution screen... and the GTX 1060 gfx card will more than do what i need.

but should i go for the slightly easier to find 7, or does it have to be the 5 pro?

i read that the 7 didn't have as good cooling as the 5,

but also note that the 7 is easier to get with windows 10... i really do not want win11, and was considering buying direct from lenovo without an operating system due to this.

i've been arsing about for over a month on what laptop to get to replace my yoga 2 pro, and it's time i just chose one and bought it i think.

i just need the final little nudge towards either the 7 or the 5.

oh, and AMD or intel?

cheers, thats one thing down,

whilst i'd like to get the 12th generation stuff and DDR6 memory etc, there's no release date for the Gen7 legion 5 pro, so it could be out tomorrow, or in 6 months time... and if it's not out in more than a few weeks, i'll need a new laptop fast as i will have thrown this one through the window due to it locking up for 3 minutes when i do a delete face on F360.

Thanks for the advice, decided on the 5 pro as being more value for money...

and just ordered a gen7 legion 5 pro, which came out today.

Was a bit more than i was wanting to pay, but i am hoping this new laptop should last me at least the next 5 years, if not the 8 years the the yoga 2 has done.

Added a few 'upgrades' :

i7 12700H
32 gig DDR5 ram
1TB SSD
3060 GFX card (couldn't justify the £280 addon for the 3070)
WI-FI 6E 2x2.
and no operating system, as i'm not going to entertain windows 11,

i will buy another win10 key for £7.50 and load windows 10 on it like i did with the desktop last week (as that was running win8, but i was having trouble finding drivers / programs for things like surround sound headphones for win8)

it's got the usual 'more than 6 weeks delivery' this seems to be due to the GFX cards? the gen6 legion 5 pro's are 'ships in 1-2 days' if you want the 3050 gfx card, but 'more than 6 weeks' if you want a 3060 / 70 or 80 card.

i was deliberating about the OS... but as i really really do not like windows 11, i figured going no OS was best, as there is no option for win10 at lenovo.

i'll miss out on the 'open the lid and there's your new laptop working' bit, but i imagine i will also be able to do away with the bloatware as well.

yeah i think lenovo are a little better than some others with the bloat ware, i've had laptops in the past were half the hard drive as taken up with the *****, and constant nags to buy a subscription to anti virus etc.

it was £2100, found a voucher for £100 off tho.

But it was the lure of DDR5, and the alderlake processors that got me,

The entire laptop is way over specced for what i intend to use it for, which will be 90% fusion 360 designing, but it will be nice to get a render in hopefully seconds instead of minutes, and do away with the ~5 minute wait when i do a delete face on something way back in the timeline, so it basically has to reconstruct the model again.

I might even play a few games on it just to try it out, and if it's as good as it claims, it might semi replace the desktop pc which is running a 2012 vintage 2500k / sandy bridge processor.

i kinda wanted the newest cpu possible,

ok i am running a i7-4500U in the yoga 2 laptop, but that thing maxes out at 100% far too often, sometimes even when doing what i'd think are simple things in F360.

i'll have to look into the win 10/11 thing, i'd really hate to have to use windows 11, tried it on this laptop and i reverted back within a day.

I guess if i do need win11, it will have to get used to it and all it's issues, will see if i still get the offer to upgrade when i put win10 on the new laptop, i did as soon as i put it on the desktop, and promptly ****** that off.

Just cancelled the order for the laptop, and re-ordered practically the same one ready built.

i was paying £2173.99 for a built to order version, 6 weeks delivery time etc etc (yeah i got carried away with the prospect of the latest processor and DDR5 ram etc)
just ordered a ready built one for £1650.49, delivered in 1-2 days they claim (both including a £100 discount voucher found by googling)

Differences between the 2,

first one i had 32GB of ram, and a 1060 6 gb GFX card,
then a 1tb ssd, i7 12700H processor, and i selected no operating system as at the time i wasn't keen on using windows 11 (and at -£90 for no OS, i was going to get licence key for about a tenner off one of the many sellers of them)

2nd one, 'only' has 16GB of ram (AFAIK it's plug in ram, so will get a second 16GB stick when i feel like i need it)
But a 1070TI 8gb gfx card, same 1tb ssd, same i7 12700H processor, this time with windows 11 home included (no option to add or remove things on the ready to ship laptops)
this one has the 4 zone RGB lighting crap, i just hope i can set it to white and be done with it.. wonder if the legion 5 pro has the same issue the legion 7 had with the RGB software.
