Help,
my old desktop just died so i am setting up a VM to do the same job, i started by installing the copy of windows XP which was on the computer which died.

here is where my problem is, its installed correctly but when i try to activate it i am told its an unauthorised version, i disagree with this as i purchased it from here and i used it previously.

i tried to activate it over the phone but got the same 'its an unauthorised copy' what can i do???

Was it an OEM or Retail Copy? Should be some way to get in touch with someone and provide evidence. Did they say anything else apart from unauthorized copy?

Theres ya problem fella,

OEM software dies with its original equipment

As your no longer running the OEM Copy of XP with the original Motherboard the liscense is now void im afraid.

unfortunatly i only have the home edition, i have noticed a few OEM/Recovery version's for sale on an auction site, they say the come with the full licence key etc but im not sure, will it work and is it legit?

thanks

update :(

finally phoned microsoft and they said they cant authorise it, they also then started saying that OCUK shouldnt have sold it to me and that i should only buy software direct from the M$ store and not any licenced vendors....

i find it very annoying....

so now i have to pay for another copy :(
