Legitimately download Windows?

Is it possible to legally buy a Windows OS, but download it (and activation key) rather than buying a CD?

Possibly, but if you thinking this will save money, think again. The DVD is a very small part of the overall price, you will not save any money.

I'm not so sure about that. The vast amount of Winodws sales are through OEMs.

You can buy a retail copy online but not an OEM copy if that's what you wanted.

I bet you have torrented it already

If you are a student an MSDN account will give you a legal free copy. Tbh I would just buy it normal-style. As when I need to re-install it is because Windows has completely died and I need the disk.
