Well, pointless thread but hey

Next week I will have been at my current employer for 24 years.

Some people retire with over 40 years service.

24 years seems incredible to me.

How long do you guys envisage staying at your current employer?

When I joined I thought 5 years would be lucky.

I was at Creda/Hotpoint/Indesit/Ariston for 27 years.

If I retire at 66 I can only complete 17 years at the NHS and at the age of 58 I can't see me moving on.

22 years with the same firm here. Though as my current employer is getting on a bit i cant see me being there till i hit retirement age.

I've been working for Bose for two years next month, likely look for something new fairly soon however. Longest I've worked somewhere would be about 4-5 years but that was mostly out of apathy.

13 years tomorrow :p

Been through the third name change today as we have merged with Tyco!

I've just finished a 10 year stint at my second job out of uni. Starting a new possition on the 12th.

So far 9 years. Aiming for 22 years for a full pension with the scope to sign up for longer depending on situation. Seeing as the pension is calculated from an average of your career wage, the quicker you promote the better. Seeing as I've promoted quick, I'm happy to remain and push that average up :)

Probably not end up doing longer than 30 years, but it's comforting to think I can afford to retire at 47yrs old if I wanted.

Got an apprenticeship and worked with the same company for six years, then I moved to Canada and worked for a place for a year and a half, now I'm back working for the same company as I got an apprenticeship with. Have been back with them for almost 10 months.

I am currently looking to move on, but I'm stuck in Limbo...

9 years in my current place. Keep thinking about going contract but I'm pretty happy where I am. We're a good team and friends, salary is good, 30min walk to office or 5-10min drive, we're working on interesting projects so there's no need to change anything.

22 years for a full pension how? In the nhs its 40 years and the nhs pension is seen as being very good.

15 month for me. This is the first employer I actually feel a bit loyal to because they actually invest money in me. Before that, four years ws the most. It takes a LOT for me to be loyal to a company, in most cases I drop the baton the second someone waves a bigger paycheque in my face. I actually just passed up on a 6k a year pay rise last week because I'm happy and loyal at this firm. We'll see if it was worth it.

Just hit two years at my current workplace. Only finished four years of my teaching career so far, I was hoping to hang around at my current employer for a while, at least seven years so I could see one year group go all the way from year seven to thirteen, but management managed to really annoy me at the end of last term (not following their own policies on quite a significant issue) that mean I'm starting to look for greener pastures now...
