Hi all,

I’m looking to buy this laptop: https://www.laptopoutlet.co.uk/leno...sd-windows-10-s-platinum-grey-81yq003nuk.html

What are people’s views on it? Is it worth the money? Generally, I’m looking for an all rounder for everyday normal use, but maybe some light gaming and video editing and I heard this is decent enough for that.

My budget is £600, so I’m already stretching a bit and I can’t stretch anymore than this.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

What games are you intending on playing?
Video editing is not going to be snappy on that laptop with a 2gig clock cpu and 8GB of RAM. CPU may be OK but it'll fall down on the RAM spec.
Light gaming may be possible but I wouldn't be holding up any hopes of decent frame rates. Some old games should run ok if they're not 3D intensive.

I have the same laptop but with a 4800U/16GB. I paid a lot less for it than that. At that price their are better deals around and you could get a dedicated GPU at that price.

The Ideapad is pretty impressive in isolation. It can handle some light gaming (Anno/Surviving Mars) but isn't much cop at FPS games unless they're older. It's noisey under load.

The RAM can't be upgraded unfortunately. 8GB isn't bad but for video editing you may want more.

There were a range of LCD panels it can be configured with, ranging from pretty crap TN panels to decent IPS panels.

If you order it direct from the manufacturer you can use a 10% new customer discount code or a 20% Unidays/Bluelight code. You could also adjust the configuration and add extra RAM and a better panel if your budget allows but I can't see the option for that anymore. Might be worth ringing them.

CPU is more than OK for video editing as far as laptop CPUs go. It will maintain a much higher clock than 2Ghz and is an 8 core part so pretty beefy in the grand scheme despite being a low TDP part.

I've got the 4800U and it'll hold over 4ghz in all core loads at 28W.

The Vega CPU is surprisingly capable to be honest too. Yes it's not a gaming laptop but you can comfortably play Anno/Civ/CSGO etc comfortably.

I've got the same laptop as Minstadave but with the 4700u (I remember discussing with him last year when we were buying). Think it cost me around £585 including the better screen and metal chassis and I've been so impressed by it. I've played a lot of ArmA 3 with mates over lockdown and it handles that easily, and even handles the new Flight Simulator on low settings. That said, for the price of the one you're looking at I'd keep an eye out for better deals
