I just bought the Legion 7 5800H with a RTX 3060 and 16Gb RAM Dual Channel from Overclockers. Its an awesome machine that runs very quite when doing normal everyday tasks and can also push some decent games but like all gaming laptops under load it gets a bit loud but this is to be expected.

After I got it it just didn't fell fast enough considering the CPU and was significantly slower than a friends laptop who got a 4800H so i decided to run some benchmarks and the laptop was running very slow comparatively, so after some more research on reddit and various forums I found out that Ryzen CPU's are very dependant on having good high quality RAM much more so than Interl CPUs and that Lenovo some times ship their laptops with the worst RAM money can buy which was the case for me. After looking into it the RAM that came in my notebook from Samsung and was single rank on the PCB and 1x16 configuration which is basically the worst RAM configuration you can have and the timings were 22-22-22. I managed to get hold of some Kingston Fury Impact RAM which were 2R Dual Rank, x8 configuration and after replacing the RAM CPU performance increased with over 20% I went from a 3DMark CPU Score of 8300 to 10200 just by replacing the RAM nothing else.

So if you are thinking of getting any Ryzen CPU based laptop make sure you check what RAM you have as you could be leaving a lot of performance on the table just by having been unlucky and got poor quality RAM in your system. Increasing the amount of RAM doesn't really matter for performance unless you only have 8GB but the actual PCB design of the RAM itself makes a huge difference.

I know Overclockers are only reselling these machines but should really at least inform people when they spend £1500 on a machine that it might not run faster than if you would have spent £1000 because or bad ram. I wonder how many Ryzen CPU laptops they have sold to people that are running 20% below advertised performance.
