I bought a Lenovo thinkpad P1 GEN 4 off Gumtree, was working well for a couple weeks then the screen started completely going blank.

On two occasions I have also heard bios beep sequences which match up with "Display error". Although the beeps havent happened for a while.

It's got 11th gen core I7, 32gb ram.

When a monitor is attached its perfect. But it's not portable because I only get 20 mins before screen dies. I have to turn it off, 10-15 mins later it comes on again for a bit longer then goes off.

The first thing I would do is put the laptop serial number into the Lenovo warranty checker to see if it has any warranty left.

Then I would try to work out whether it is a faulty chipset, the panel itself or the cable. The good news is that if it's the cable of panel then Lenovo's are usually built with repair in mind and spare parts can be got fairly easily. You say it is perfect when an external monitor is attached. Does that mean that even the laptop screen works perfectly when an external monitor is attached? Most (not all) P1's have a dedicated GPU as well as inbuilt GPU. Maybe do some research into whether one GPU is in use when the internal screen is on and the other GPU is in use when a monitor is attached (which might indicate an issue with the GPU).

But try the warranty checker foirst.
