I have been given an old laptop from work. I need a new hard disk. It is the T460s from Lenovo. Any suggestion on cheap, decent quality SSDs? Also, what are my options for operating systems? This will be a spare laptop for home learning and games for my son.

I've upgraded two very cheap dell laptops in my household with 128gb ssd's from the rainforest. Never heard of the make, think they are chinese specials.

They have transformed both laptops.

No need for chasing performance figures on a laptop that has cost you nothing or isnt a super duper gaming laptop.

Adjust capacity to suit.

Regarding an operating system, the BIOS should have a Windows key embedded so Windows should just activate.
250GB SSD are pretty cheap ATM. I'd rather spend £30ish for that than save a tenner and struggle with a 120GB drive.
ThinkWiki says the drivers are all M.2 including NVMe but I think SATA should suffice:

Having said that, of the machine was free spending a bit on a drive shouldn't be a big deal.

I'd definitely put an M2 in it.

I've got two old Lenovos. Quite a bit older. One with an M2 and one with a standard SSD. There's no comparison really. One wakes up 10 seconds or so faster and is as snappy as my desktop for light work (which is amazing considering). The other... is okay. My GF uses it so I forget how **** it is really.

I'd also make sure it's got at least 8GB RAM in it. The T460 has one soldered and one slot I think.
