Lenovo x121e netbook

x121e on the way, due on Tuesday. Crucial M4 128GB SSD on the way, due on Tuesday.

And now I've found out there is a 7mm limit - FFS.

When did you order yours mate? I am trying so hard to resist but my NC10 is pretty much useless to me these days and am seriously considering getting an x121e. Thing is, I go away on holiday on Wednesday and would really love to take it with me. Is there a possibility it could get delivered Tuesday if I order today?

Would be happy to pay for next day but there doesn't seem to be the option.

Edit: I am thinking about getting the 2GB option and getting a 4GB stick to make it 6GB total. Could someone point me in the direction of a suitable DIMM for it please?

I ordered mine on Saturday 30th July, and according to the UPS tracking link I have it will be delivered on Tuesday 9th August - it takes them quite a while to dispatch it and ship from China, so you have no chance of getting it on Tuesday if you ordered it today :(

I wouldn't let the dispatch time put you off ordering, it seems like a cracking laptop that will (hopefully) be worth the wait. Order it before you go on holiday and you'll have it by the time you come back ;)

With regards to the RAM, I got myself 8GB, specifically:

2x Kingston - 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 SODIMM

Cost me around £36.00 for the RAM, so I would definitely advise getting the 2GB version from Lenovo and upgrading yourself (and sell the 2GB chip on eBay).

Still gutted about my SSD, I think I'm just going to have to sand it down :D

the thing is the 6310 GPU which comes with the Fusion graphics is not a good performer

a lot of people seem to think it is going to be good as it is dedicated but it scores in the same region as an older ati 4250 but with the low power CPU it hinders it further http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6310.40952.0.html.

ok so it is a massive leap over netbooks but the manufacturers keep putting it in 15 & 17 laptops which is clearly isn't for. It is not a patch on the HD 3000 graphics

It's not really for gaming, but HD content and accelerated graphics. It's what the old Ion used to do. Llano is more appropriate in that case, and comparable with a i3, while the E-350 is more like Atom dual-core + Ion2.

So for netbooks, they're ok. I'd love to see a 11'' Llano, might be getting a bit hot though :)

It seems from other sites It is possible that the 9.5 mm crucial M4 may be converted to 7mm by removing the four screws and the spacer. however you need to get shorter replacement screws , these availabe on ebay , size M2- 3mm. Also it seems you may need to put a small piece of tape over the chips themselves to prevent the cover short circuiting.

All of this will invalidate the SSD warranty. But it beats a sander.

To me it is incrediby misguided of lenovo to use the 7 mm size SSD for the
X121E.

Could anyone who has the Lenova X121e please let me know how good the speakers sound quality is?

Not sure whether to get this netbook or the HP DM1-3100 which has excellent sound with altec lansing speakers.

This or an Asus Transformer, hmm.

You will get yourself more battery with the Transformer.

But if i wanted a laptop or netbook that is capable of the things the x121e is, i would get it, can play dirt2 all be it on low graphics, but it will most likely let me play my other games too :)

As for the Transformer, it has something rather special about it, having the ability to be a Tablet or a Netbook, and its slick, generates no real heat, and can last around 14-16 hours on a full charge :)

Bet the Lenovo or any other laptop cannot beat that to be honest.

Even with all the initial teething problems?

Hi,
Newbie on this forum.
I have been interested in the X121e for a couple of weeks but was hesitant about ordering. I stumbled across this thread and I ordered a X121e yesterday after reading this thread.
Just wanted to get an idea of how long you had to wait for the laptop to be delivered from date of order?
Thanks in advance for any replies!
Cheers!

Seems the other guys had to wait around 10 days or so in total. I eventually ordered an X220 on Tuesday instead of the x121e, so I'm hoping mine won't take much longer than that.

Thanks for the reply.
Just got an Order Shipped notification. Quoting 3-6 days for delivery.
Order was placed on the 9th so pretty good going.

I ordered myself one on the 8th to replace my very slow acer 522 (c-50) got shipping confirmation today.

Only thing worrying my is the trackpad isn't synaptic I hate the crappy alps pads on work laptops etc, can anyone confirm multitouch is working ok and general usage is lag free?

Also anyone know what the fan noise is like while just browsing?

You should try and get yourself used to the red nipple thing in the middle of the keyboard. Once you get used to it you wont ever use the touchpad again. Once you get adept at it you can get quite nifty cos your hands dont have to move away from the keyboard to move the mouse cursor.
The Lenovo nipple is far superior than the crappy Dell ones in my opinion. I have owned several Thinkpads over the past 15 years or so - both at home and work. They recently switched us to Dells at work and I hate the Dell nipple - have started using an external mouse.

I did use to myself but I have become so reliant on multitouch gestures while browsing that I don't think I could go back.

Bah! I'm still waiting for my X220 to be dispatched.

I really don't like buttonless touchpads, so I'm kind of banking on the nipple. Multitouch is overrated in my books!

Somebody over on another forum I frequent found this latest review on the X121e
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-X121e-204562U-Laptop-Review.58880.0.html

Worth a read. The performance stuff is quite reassuring for me as I currently have a T400 with 2.2ghz Core2Duo and I was a bit concerned about going to a 1.3Ghz processor. I don't play games but do watch 1080p films and mess about with Adobe Lightroom and Elements.
