hi all,
thinking of doing a little bit to my lenovo legion y530 laptop.
it has one 4gb stick of ddr4 @ 4266mhz thinking of going to 8gb. does have to be 4266 again or ok to go faster?
do you think corsair or kingston or ?

it has a 256 ssd, looking to get a 500 ssd, looking at samsung evo, ?

also can you recomend the best free software to clone the old drive? and what cable to do the job.

i dont game on the laptop, it uses over 6gb of ram doing what i do.
any advice would be great and links to parts would be good,

thanks guys.

Do you mean 2666Mhz? I take it that it has a total of 8gb so 4gb soldered to the board and an additional 4gb SODIMM? (Same as my thinkpad) if that is the case then it will downtrain to the speed of the soldered memory so anything faster than 2666Mhz is a waste of money. For the price that it currently is i would just get a 16Gb stick and max it out, it should be about £32. In terms of SSD there are some fantastic deals on 1Tb drives all over the place currently. Pretty sure that the 1Tb Samsung 970 Evo plus is currently £55 :)

Samsung do a data migration software that you can use with their drives: https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/tools/

Hope that helps.

thank you sir,
i think it has i stick, i thought an 8gb one, i will open the laptop and check, thanks for the bit about the memory speed.
you think.
1 16gb stick not 2 8gb sticks?
do overclockers sell laptop memory, link please.
thank you
