Lenovo's IdeaPad S10 netbook

Can anyone confirm the driver downloads aren't availible on the Lenovo website for the S10e's?

Can search for vista and xp drivers but nothing displayed?

Right, I've found the black one for £253 at a retailer. But I have to say, the deal on the Lenovo website itself is better. It's £259 for the white version with 1.5gb RAM and the 6 cell battery. With that much RAM I'd probably not bother with upgrading to 2gb and I'd certainly not need a bigger battery. Just not sure on the white. Also not convinced about the smaller screen that this machine has compared to the standard 1024x600.

Does anyone have the white version and what do you think of it?

Had a long hard look at one in a local shop... looks a bit cheap and toy like compaired to the black one imo.

It's down to taste i guess. I've never liked apple stuff either. The e has bluetooth which the vanilla S10 does not... well depends on where you read up on it

The screen isn't really an issue. I've used a 1024x600 and this is barely different. Use firefox and make the menus smaller, cut out the tool bars, get the firefox plugin that auto hides the staus bar and auto hide Windows task bar. Sorted! Some software doesn't like full-screening in 1024x576 but i think you'll find just as much that don't like 1024x600 either!...

Edit: 1GB is plenty imo, the S10 is more processor bound than any desktop performace wise. Nice to have more tho

The partition is for the automated recovery (F11 on boot up) only - however chaning your OS to xp pro or vista will render this useless and youll never get it to work.

The drivers lurk on the C drive...

Had my s10e for only a day now but fallen for it totally, except the battery life. Considering getting one of those 9 cell jobbies you have from eBay. Is it the same quality plastic as the lenovo batteries?

Wonder how long it'll last before the charge degrades... 3rd party batteries arn't usually as good as the legit parts... generally

Having said that, I've never had a laptop with a much better battery life that about 2.5 - 3hrs anyway (and I've had LOADS of em, through work)

hi mate

wasnt ebay was some global laptop batteries website (googleit) £74 shipped from hong kong. Looks the same quality plastic and generally well made. I cant really comment about degradation of the 9cell as i havent had it long enough. On full charge its saying roughly 11hrs at the moment. I guess it will slowly degrade over time but still it does the job :)

Did you get hit with any import tax etc? I think I looked at the same site

hi, sorry to bump an old thread, but are people still pleased with there s10e's?

Are there any new models out now or should I buy the white s10e with 1.5 gb ram, 160 hdd and a 6 cell battery?

£260 seems a steel to me, especially compared to a similar specced eeepc!!!

Still loving mine.

I was tempted to get rid when the fan was doing my head in the other week, but after some tweaking it seems to be under control now.

Still tempted to rip it open and mod the heatsink but that's a bit extreme for now :)

I got an early one with the 3 cell battery and I definitely want to pick up a 6 cell, but not sure whether to go for an auction site special or get an official lenovo one at quite a bit more :p But then I only paid £99 for it new in a deal so can't complain :)

yeh thats good, how did u get your £200 vouchers?

I may try source a second hand, I want it for a cheapo small netbook. It loks good value of all the netbooks i know about even at £260, a lot of spec for less price.

Some offer Lenovo had on, you had the chance to get your £20 voucher upgraded to £200, and I was lucky lol.

It's perfect for me though, use it in bed for browsing and watching stuff, take it away when I'm staying away with work and even on holiday once.

The thing that I really like about the lenovo is the styling, no glossy plastics, all looks very understated.
