Hi,

I'm looking at getting a new lens for my recently purchased D7000. The kit lens is quite good, but I want to do some concert/band photography so I need something a bit faster to cope with the low light situations.

It's a choice between:

Nikon 50mm F1.8
Nikon 35mm F1.8
Sigma 24-70MM F2.8D

Obviously the 35-70mm is a little slower, and dearer, but I was thinking git covers the ground of both the others and gives greater flexibility.

Any thoughts?

Initially I'm just talking about local Pub and club bands so can usually get fairly close if needed.

I used the Nikon 35mm F1.8 the other week for some photos at a small venue and it was perfect for that. Obviously if you start taking photos in bigger venues or can't get to the stage it isn't going to be ideal.

Personally I think 50mm would be an awkward length if at the front of the stage.

The sigma will definitely be the most versatile.
