Hi,

Got a Canon 1100D, with the kit supplied IS lens. Issue here is that it doesn't zoom in too far, for example I was at the tennis last week and didn't magnify as I wanted it to do so, what lens would be better? Canon's 75-300mm? That retails for around £120, have up to £180 max really.

Also, how much of an improvement will it really make?

Thanks in advance.

Presumably your kit is 18-55... So yes, something that goes to 300mm will be a huge difference, plus on a crop sensor camera such as yours, it effectively is 480mm.

Sounds good, whats your opinion of the lens I listed, the Mk3 75-300mm. Is the IS on the 70-300mm worth the rather extra price, circa £320 in comparison to the £120 75-300mm regular Canon lens.

Cheers

I'm using the 55-250 IS on my 450D.

It seems reasonable, but I have nothing to compare it to so I'm probably not the best person to ask. I've managed take some sharp shots from canoes. Whether or not I could have done with a none IS lens is debatable...

avoid the 75-300mm it is a bit of a dog, the smart money these days is going either on the canon 55-250mm IS or the Tamron 70-300mm VC hand holding on a long lens IS/VC/OS is a real bonus even more so than on your short kit lens.
