Lenses for my D3100

Hello all,

Im looking to get a new lens or two for my D3100. I currently have the kit lens 18-55mm. I was looking at a 70-300mm telephoto/macro lens for sports and macro, are they any good? Or do I need something different, it would probably be a sigma or tamron.

Also thinking of a nice F1.8 lens, either 35mm or 50mm for portraits. Which would work better on my camera?

Im new to all this so be nice

The 50mm would be manual focus only on the D3100. I have the 35mm for mine. It's great.

35mm 1.8 - First lens after the kit lens i purchased for my DX Nikon and love it

And for a telephoto there's three good offerings from Nikon at the lower budget end
70-300 VR, best and most expensive.
55-300 VR DX, same reach but the worst AF of the three
55-200 VR, less reach but snappy AF like the 70-300

The AF-S version of the 50mm f1.8 has been available for a while now, you know.

The 50mm f1.8G would autofocus fine, only the old 1.8D wouldn't

Havn't used a different second hand dealer yet so can't comment on others.
