Leon Eurocup crash - Oulton Park

I was at Brands Hatch on Sunday, I usually go round to the GP section but didn't this time. The marshals were very lucky :o The safety car had only just gone in, following a pretty heavy crash at Paddock Hill.

The crash at Paddock wasn't that bad, just took them a long time to clear the car.

That crash was very bad, the speed of the medical and fire crews was impressive - the speed of the red flag however was not!

I was at Brands Hatch on Saturday for the WTCC qualifying, and for the first time ever ventured out towards the 'Grand Prix' portion of the circuit. I thought at the time how great it was that parts of it weren't obstructed by large catch fencing, and hope there's not a knee jerk reaction to all this.

Catch fencing isnt that bad really, but I dont think thats the issue here. I think the issue is that the barrier seems to have flexed at the top, while staying fixed to the ground at the base, angling it into a kind of ramp which meant the car got airborn and then it was always going to be serious once you start rolling end on end.

Stronger armco supports are whats needed so it deflects the car back at 90 degrees to the upright, rather than flexing 45 degrees and firing the car up in the air.

Another big shunt at Brands this weekend. Had heard about it but not seen it until just now. One very very lucky boy!

Car just seemed to bounce in all the right places.

Lucky guy in the FF, i'd not seen that one either. This is my Paddock Hill 'crash' approaching paddock at about 110mph the brakes exploded !!
