Possibly looking to buy one shortly as a daily. Would likely be around 15-16 plate and manual. I'd look to get it custom mapped with rtech with conservative figures - 220-230 bhp with similar torque as would intend to keep longer term. They seem like good value with no major known faults on any area of the car? I know the dsg is a weak point being dry hence manual.

Any alternatives that offer similar? 9-12k ish. 3dr or 5dr.

Polo Gti with the same engine but slightly more power 190-200bhp. Looks better IMO but the Leon is normally cheaper or better spec’d. My Polo has the Led headlights which are superb and I wouldn’t be without them as the misses drives country lanes during the winter and they give her more confidence.

Nice enough car, better interior than the Mk7 Fiesta ST and just more grown up. Nippy enough but could defiantly benefit from a remap to give it a bit mid range punch.

Looked at them briefly as well. The quality of the interior seems a little better on the polo, but outside of that given it would be mapped, it just seems as though you get more for your money with the Leon.

As good as the Fiesta st is supposed to be, I'm not sure I could get passed the image and the interior does look a bit cheap. Like the older Seat models in fact.

Isn't the Leon more equally pit against the Focus/Golf?

Yes, but same engine as in polo gti in different state of tune. Golf just holds silly value and the focus st I'm still unsure on. Some people seem to think the pre facelift is fine on a good tyres, others say it's quite bad compared with the facelift with it's revised setup. Facelift more money than I'm willing to spend.

I've had one of these for 3 years now. Great car the only minor issue I have is the road noise is lightly louder then I anticipated. Apart from that its a superb car.

Why not look at a facelift Focus ST-Line as the comparison?

The Leon FR is only a trim level thing after all, no point only looking at the full blooded ST as a comparison if you'd be happy with a 1.5 Ecoboost at 180bhp?

Is that the 18 onwards 3cyl?

Why not just buy a MK3 Octavia VRS petrol 2.0 TSI which starts at the figures you're wanting to map to? They come in either 220, 230 or 245PS form. They also map to 300+ should you want more power down the line. Should be able to get a good 15/16 plate model for 12k.

Not keen on them.

The Leon will likely come better specced than a lot of the alternatives being suggested here. My FR is a 2014 and none of the others could get close without spending more money, and even then the Focus etc didn't have certain features even as an option e.g. LED lights.

Only major issue I've had with mine is the turbo pressure actuator failing, fortunately it didn't require a new turbo and they just replaced the part.

The MK1 Focus was such a stand out car. I don't think they have got any generation since correct, styling wise.

Horrid looking thing wouldn’t be seen dead in it.

Save some money and just go for a better car.
