Leopard set for October release

I would have preferred the OS to be more prioritised than a stupid phone. But it makes financial sense for them to get the iPhone out there without any delays during which a competitor might release a similar product.

People will still buy Macs when they need them, and they cant buy iPhones if they havent been released.

Wish it was the other way around.

Want leopard so bad!

We wont even get the iPhone out here in june so theres not even a consolation product for us! :(

they really should have thought about it a bit more me thinks.
pretty gutted its not out till oct.. i know thats sad but i was quite looking forward to messing about on my new system!

hopefully oct is the last possible date. it might be ready before then, i would image after a delay, they would try to get it out before the second deadline.

damn Apple taking their time

ah well, will give me time to download that 12GB file...before I wipe and install Leopard on my iBook :(

Works perfectly for me as long as it doesn't get put back any further.

I'm waiting until I get back to uni after the summer holidays before buying my Macbook Pro so I get an educational discount. Nice shiny new Mac in October with nice shiny new Leopard to go with it :)

Interesting!

iPhone > OS X apple thinks, hmm I think it should have been the other way round

I was reading a while ago that OSX Leopard is fully 64bit OS and can only be installed on systems with a 64bit cpu and 64bit mobo.

I recall reading not all of the current Mac range meet these criterea, hence a hardware refresh would be required.

I am sure I read somewhere that macbook or macbook pro had 64bit cpu (C2D) but only had a 32 bit mobo.

Anyone know about this?

No it's not. It's a full 32-bit operating system with new 64-bit libraries. So it will work seamlessly on either Intel processor family.

Rubbish! mobos don't effect the 64 capacity, hell even the old 845? IIRC chipset that support C2D allow for 64 bit.

Any Mac will be able to use 10.5, just the Intel macs will have the best performance.

Not a big deal, Tiger OS X already works great.

I rather see hardware upgrade sooner with Santa Rosa chipset with bigger FSB, bigger RAM support and better integrated graphics (macbook).

When Leopard comes out, it is only ££ to upgrade.

So it should be Ok on my mac mini (1.83 version)>?

Still gonna hold off getting a macbook pro till close to the Leopard release.

So by October I could be seeing a load of hardware updates as well?

In that case I'm definitely waiting!
