I thought half the point of having a console was for 2 player games,
I keep looking to get games

Ssx
Dead island recently

Go on Google to see if they have coop..no, I'm now getting ssx 3 cause that has coop, part of me wonders if I should have just got an old Xbox! At least forza has split screen!

Only games I have are halo 1,2,3, forza, ssx3. Struggling to find coop games.
Is this a thing of the past?

To some extent yes, devs don't want to reduce graphical power to put in split screen. Another reason we need a new gen (of course devs will probably just do the same thing but make them look better)

Co-optimus is a great site for checking what game offers what:

For the most part it also depends on the genre/type of game as well, some of which are practically niche titles.

Most split screen coop games I prefer are generally the old school type hack'n slash action type, so say the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors series as an example.

And then you have the non-split screen coop games in 2D action platformers, whether they are new IPs or remakes of old arcade classics.

Co-op games out there mate(wish to God there were more though). LotR: Battle of the North (I think it's called). Great split screen action.

Co-optimus is a great site, I agree with whoever mentioned it.

Thanks for the help guys, might give portal 2 a go!
Looks like resident evil has coop too! Least I have some to try!

What I've never understood is why they don't make a console with 2 video outputs, and then having "split screen" but on 2 separate TVs?

Let's face it, most households these days have more than one TV, but rarely have more than one of the same console.

I understand they would obviously have to reduce the graphics quality due to outputting 2 displays instead of 1, but this could be a great selling point :)

How many households have two tv's in the same room? I'd go with basically zero.

It's an interesting idea but it's ridiculously niche and developers wouldn't cater for it (why make their game look much worse than the competition so it can be run on two screens at once?)

Because it would only do that when outputting to 2 TVs, normally it would be the same as any other system.

Well obviously, I didn't think it required two screens :p

But it would still require devs to develop for it (you can't just take a game and make it run to two screens, it would require extra development to reduce the graphical quality and make sure it runs at a reasonable framerate on both screens.)

And the simple fact is not many people would want it.
