Got my X2 up on MM at the mo, and im thinking of replacing it with a venice 3500+.

At this present time i dont think id notice to much differene in games in terms of the CPU as im assuming i could get it to 2.6 easily.

But as im planning a 2nd 7900GT im sure that the extra gfx power will make up for the slght drop in cpu power.

Then i plan to get a better cpu in a few months, maybe conroe.

Would depend on the resolution he was using, at 1280x1024 it's not worth SLI in my opinion. 1920x1024 on the other hand SLI will give a big boost to SLI enabled games.
