Perhaps but allocating the initial batch hot off the wafer to dell meant more its going to pick up within the next week anyway so not that much of an issue

The point i am making is that they had the cards out quite a while maybe months if so then if they got a shortage it down to low yields.
 
Nothing wrong with the yields the shortage is down to selling the past few months production straight to dell for some magic beans
 
I was going to say, better launch for who? Us or ATi?

I think ATi have reaped the rewards from both public and corporate areas. Just a shame some of you suffered.

In one of the reports I'd read from Fudzilla, the 40nm yields were up from TSMC. If the GT300 is supposedly a brand new design of chip, rather than just a revision, then it will be interesting to see how it compares to the 5xxxx series which is just an evolution of last gen :)

Yeah it is, but thats only because ATi didn't have to do a new design, Nvidia needed to as they got most of the features needed for Dx11 removed from Dx10, and they had them removed after ATi had done them. :)

They're a business i guess would be wrong to turn down such a large contract to allocate to the retail channel where they might not have made as much cash
 
Damn that is fantastic news, was expecting ot have to wait until March, now all we need to know is how it performs.

for ATI i think it's worked out brilliantly for them. a big contract with Dell obviously took out the largest chunk of the new 5870/5850's so left the retailer short.

but stock will be arriving next week (270 from Sapphire alone) and this is only at OCUK.

plenty to go around for those who want one from what i see.

As for Nvidia i believe they have held off so they can see ATI's offering and maybe revise there chip etc if needed (as they did with the 260/280). I think this is all that has delayed Nvidia and nothing to do with yield etc. that was a smoke screen

Well i aint buying ATI again any time soon if they cant play some of the games nice and smoth, nvidia has a good thing with its physx/cuda thing going into games.


Yeah with these costing a lot(the new nvidia's), im hoping that gtx 285 ive got my eye on comes down in price.:D

i'd upgrade your cpu first as i think that may be your problem. not the cards/drivers
