Hi all
now before anyone gets hot under the collar this is slightly tongue in cheek as well as a serious personal experience ...
OK got my Ultimate OEM x64 on Monday and has been installed since Monday lunchtime , however , Vista appears to be just a tad over sensitive as ive had 2 flags for reactivation for hardware changes since.. LOL .. i shouldnt laugh but it really is absurd when you read the facts ...
Flag 1 .. occured Tuesday afternoon , everything had been 100% OK but as peeps do i was fiddling around (in the BIOS) and decided to turn off unused items , now the motherboard (Abit AB9 Pro) has dual lan so as only using one i turn one off and that was only change i made. Reboot into Vista and WHAM pop-up "your copy of Vista has been deactivated due to significant hardware changes" ... WTF so i tried reactivation (online) and said copy was already in use and would require phone call .. i just thought be easier to restore an image i had made and all was sorted .. sheesh
Flag 2 .. yesterday evening .. having installed Vista originally on a Raid0 config (2x250Gb SATA II drives) and suffering a few glitches i thought no probs just unraid and reinstall no hassles .. sheesh how wrong i was , unraided reinstalled vista & went to reactivate WHAM this copy is already in use you need to reactivate over the phone due to significant hardware changes
... again i re-raided the drives and have re-installed the image i had saved & all is cool
now maybe just me .. im usually unlucky like this .. or could be that Vista is ultra sensitive but disabling an onboard lan shouldnt flag a hardware change although i guess raid to non-raid is more noticable again surely they aret going to flag the slightest thing like that as could end up every little thing means a phone reactivation
Just my experience over last 3 days not a rant but maybe a warning to others .. anyone else had a reactivation flag yet ??? for a stupid thing
