Starting with mine... There are basically two problems that annoy me with Vista, kinda small but annoying nontheless. Has anyone had experience of these and/or know if there is a patch/fix for them?

1. When you customize a folder and change the options they do not save.
2. When you try to click or drag on a file instead of Windows registering it as a click on the file it registers it as a click on the background of that window, for instance whist in my computer if i put my mouse above the C: drive and right click to properties instead of showing me the properties of C: it shows me the properties of my computer.
3. File transfer at low speeds, Vista seems to have very bad file move/copy performace over BB connections, for instance when I'm connected via VPN and try to copy over a file from one pc to the other it will either just never work, or it will take ages. Going through the VPN in the same way with FTP or HTTP the files will start to transfer immediatley and at full upload speed.

Thanks for your time :)

the 1st issue, theres a .reg fix. let me find it for you.. 1 tic. kk found it :) - i cant remember where i found that, but i have that file on my comp which i just copy/pasted.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

; This is a Vista ONLY Folder Repair tool, This tool will force Vista to remember your folder settings by
; Modifying registry entries. Descriptions below explain what each step is doing.
; Steps:
; 1. Open up explorer and go to Tools->Folder Options->View and uncheck Remember each folder's View settings
; 2. Double Click this registry File
; 3. Restart Computer before doing anything else
; 4. Once restarted, bring up explorer again and put the Check back that was removed in step 1.
; 5. All folders on the computer should now be in the "All Items" format. Since Auto Discovery is now off
; you will need to go to your shell folders (Pictures, Videos, Contacts, Music, etc.) and set them to the
; template you want, apply to subfolders, etc.

; Clear out Folder Settings left over from XP:
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

; Clear out Folder Settings for Vista
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

; Modify the Folder Storage space to 20000, this will allow the saving of settings for up to 20000 different folders.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:00004e20

; Turn off Vista's Auto Template Discovery. This keeps vista from deciding on it's own what type
; of Folder you have (ie, picture, videos, docs, etc) This will keep vista from changing what you
; have already set for a folder as well. Notice this value is in the Bags Key that was deleted
; in the settings above. Remember this is there, because if you decide to manually go delete
; your Bags Key, you will lose this value and auto-discovery will turn back on again.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell]
"FolderType"="NotSpecified"

As for the last one, i have terribly slow transfer speeds over MSN and the like, lower than 56k in fact, and i have no idea why! Only have windows firewall on, and i cant see blocked ports being a problem?

Vista has a weird network stack problem which is a bit of a blur between a bug and a feature, I'm not sure what progress has been made on this its been a while since I checked.

In regards to MSN I used to transfer music, video, even entire games over it but you've no chance these days - that's not a Vista specific issue.

My wireless USB adapter won't work after a resume from sleep, and neither will my Razer Pro v1.6 mouse.

I've used the ForceHCResetOnResume in registry fix. Wireless now works, but mouse freezes. Must be a mobo problem more than a vista problem.

don't paste reg files into this forum, only link to them..

if you look at the reg file, it has a space after x number of chars, making it break..

eg..

"t\Windows\Shell \Bags]"

The bagsmru fix is only temporary, the folder views resetting will always occur - it just needs time to build up again after being temp-fixed. It's a flaw that has existed since XP and it's too early to tell if it exists in 7 but fact is so far there is no fix for this bug.

never had the said problem in winXP, only vista

The more folders you custom view the more likelyhood it will be noticeable - other times you won't even notice.

It has always existed though.

It has, although I've found it much better since I used the drop down menu in the folder customize options, rather than changing the view type manually from within the folder.

If you try to copy any file over a certain size (100mb+ I think) Then Vista automatically slows the transfer down.

It is part of their crappy policy to try and discourage pirates

That is grade-A codswallop. I've copied dozens of 4GB ISOs with no problem at all.

Don't you think there would be a backlash if MS brought out an OS with such a 'feature'?

Issue 2 is just you not having particularly good hand eye co-ordination ;)

Not always, I can have the cursor over the drive icon, right click and it does it for my comp not c:. Doesn't bother me, not hard to reclick.

I've found my Vista won't connect to default shares on my XP laptop, but the laptop can connect to my pc, ie.

Enter on XP Pro 32bit laptop:
\\deifenbaker\c$

and it connects straight in (same username and password on both machines, to in theory allow quick access to either over the network).

Enter on Vista Ultimate x64 PC:
\\pedro\c$

It pops up a username and password prompt (which it shouldn't), and when I enter 'pedro\<username' and '<password>' it comes back saying it's incorrect. :/
