Hi there

Well AMD are marketing the Piledriver as one of their best overclocking CPU's yet, skeptical due to the relatively poor overclocking of Bulldozer and heat issues it had I was keen to try Piledriver.

AMD state 5GHz is possible with a good air cooler, I used their AMD cooler which is a Corsair H70/H80 equivalent with fans in push/pull mode.

Here is my results so far:-

I am rather impressed, I don't think there is much more though to be honest, maybe 5.3GHz at a push, but 5GHz is certainly a possibility which is superb for an 8-core chip.

Be interesting to see if the 6-core and 4-core varients can hit 6GHz+ ?

So lets see your results. :)

Gibbo what mobo were u using for this?

How hot does it get after 5 mins of prime 95 though?

A Gigabyte 990FX UD7 and its Vdroop is absolutely terrible, Asus are bringing me a board tomorrow, shall see if that is any better.

If anyone knows a quick easy to run benchmark that is more fairer than the out-dated SuperPI let me know and I shall run it for you. :)

Hi there

Here is some Heaven results at 5.25GHz though the OC does very little in Heaven in 1080p as it due to the graphics, but the Piledriver chip is certainly no bottleneck:-

Also the 7970GHz cards are insanely fast, this is an Asus Matrix Platinum at 1270MHz core and 7100MHz memory, wow what an amazing card!! :D :D :D

Hi there

Under PRIME Blend mode the chip ran stable at 4920MHz for 14hrs before I quit the test in the Gigabyte UD7 board.

I then tried the Asus Formula-Z 990FX board and could not even manage 4600MHz which I was very surprised by. :(
