I've got a pretty basic request but my knowledge in this area is slim. Basically I have a logo which comprises of some ornate lettering, and I want this to go on top of another image. However, I don't know how to do this without the rest of the logo jpeg [i.e. the rectangular borders of the jpeg] showing.

I don't have Photoshop and don't want to pirate it. I'm sure this is doable on free software like Irfanview or Photoscape. Can someone please explain how to do this?

You could probably do it in paint.NET. The easiest way is probably the magnetic lasso tool or the magic wand. I cant remember what tools Paint.NET has though :)

Excellent, thank you. The wand seems to be the best tool for this. It does leave the edges of the text looking slightly blurry and I need them to be sharper, but I'll play around a bit.

Are you allowed to save and keep all images produced?

Yep, just after 30 days it'll require a serial. But if you save all your images as jpeg/png, then it'll be ok. If you save the PSD though, you wont be able to open it. Saving it as a PSD keeps all of the layers and properties etc in the image.

Thank you, I don't know my way round Photoshop and will try the free software like paint.net since I'll need to use it on future occasions. In the case of Photoshop, saving as a jpeg or TIF is all I need, so I have to use it, that'll do.

I'll do it for you if you want.

If I can't get it to work I'll certainly take you up on that.
