Hi guys,

I currently let out one property via Foxtons, they did find tenants quite quickly but their costs are prohibitive, about 20% of the rental income. Has anyone had any experience of letting by themselves or using a company such as purple bricks which seem much cheaper?

Many thanks!

Is there not room for negotiation? Or shop around? I pay an awful lot less than that.

Problem is they do take care of an awful lot. I wouldnt want to deal with the hassle of chasing rent/vetting/legal/etc.

A mate is renting a place from a landlord who advertised on OpenRent. Did everything directly with the landlord, too directly it seems, as he used OpenRent to advertise but didn't complete the rental through them.

20%?

I'd say simply shop around, the lettings market is very competitive. In Oxfordshire the going rate for managed is between 6-8%, and tenant find non managed (setup only, then they leave you to it to collect directly) is around £400-500.
