So it's been a while since I let the monkey out with GD.

The Zen of Drinking Alone.

How many of you motley lot drink alone? It's something I very much enjoy on a Friday night. Me, a bottle of Jameson and Warren Zevon; but the common conception seems to be that this is the reserve of the problem drinker. My flatmate has recently taken to pointing out my alcohol intake - in the region of 50-70 units per week - as being problematic, something I don't agree with.

Is there an 'art' to drinking? Learning to understand and appreciate your limits? I've found that a lot of my work is centred around the watering hole - especially with clients, which means maintaining a significant degree of professionalism whilst not refusing a drink.

Bottoms up, GD! ;)

If you're with Warren Zevon it's not drinking alone.

50-70 units a week! You do realise they say you shouldnt drink more than around 21 untis per week.

I pity your liver.......

It works out ~2 bottles of spirit at 40% ABV per week. A 70cl bottle at 40% ABV contains 28 units of alcohol.

My liver feels fine, my life suffers no impediment and I excel at my job (I actually got promoted today). But I do feel like there is something positive to be said for drinking alone, getting to know your limits, your downfalls with Mr. Booze etc.
