LFD2 Lagging up

Hi chaps, I was wondering if you could help me or have had the same issues? For the most part it runs quite smoothly no bother there, but sometime the FPS will just drop to like 2 FPS.

There seems to be no pattern and can happen even when there is no action on the screen. It lasts for maybe a minute of 2 then returns to normal. It's very frustrating!

Any ideas?

i found this (and most other source games) stuttered and paused like crazy until I turned multicore rendering off in the graphics options. Strange I know, but try it.

I get this in all the source games and it's a bloody disaster, not sure what causes it but FPS will randomly drop to 10 or so for a couple of seconds.

For me I only get issues with LFD2. Actually saying that sometimes TF2 and when I reinstalled Episode 1 I had issues also.

Funnily enough I haven't looked into this in a while and apparently the problem is the Steam client itself hogging the CPU every so often to validate logon.
