Monitor looks lovely except for fast moving games (e.g. TF2) where the ghosting is horrible. I read a review saying that there was an issue with broken overdrive and ghosting with some of these models that did not have the fixed firmware 1.14. Does anyone know if it is possible to update the firmware on these? (or even how do I find out which firmware I have - it must be a dodgy, old one).

I can't even get into the LG site - when I try to select my region (Europe) it has 17 different languages and no English! I'm already thinking about going back to CRT.

Thanks if anyone can help.

TF2 is a fast moving game?

Sorry i can't be of any useful assistance! :) does sound like somethings knackered though.

Just got my LG226WT, and ran the Milkdrop visualisation in Winamp - didn't see a hint of ghosting.

How do I find out the firmware of my monitor?

not heard that it was a firmware issue tbh, think it was more talk that there is a fair amount of "overshoot" on this model, and RTC is not particularly well controlled.

Doh! I thought 2ms response time would rule out ghosting - you're guide was quite right Baddass, response time is obviously not the be-all and end-all. As a lifelong CRT user, is there any 22" TFT with absoutely no ghosting whatsoever? (and preferably no panel lottery either)

I spent months reading reviews and I really thought the LG was the one.

response times can help eliminate ghosting and blurring in the traditional sense, but if RTC is too aggressive (and this tech is used to achieve the fast response times) then overshoot and artefacts are a subsequent problem. The LG is fast, but i've heard issues with it's RTC control. The Samsung SM226BW is well regarded, but not without panel lottery. The Iiyama E2201W looked interesting here too :)

Thanks for the link, appreciated. Now I'm looking at 24" LCDs. Well, it's nearly Christmas.

lol if your susceptible to notice ghosting having come from a CRT and feel that a 2ms overdriven tn-panel lags (broken or not) you'll certainly notice it on any 24" tft that current exists like mad!

The 226bw/226cw (same screen basically) is generally considered the best bet, or the newer samsung one which is also 22" + overdriven and says 2ms in the specs (even if its not really always 2ms blah blah!) which has a different pebbles shape.

The 24" screens are great for wow factor / great colours etc but certainly not advisable for anyone who hates ghosting and is used to CRT which you have already said you are.

This'd be my good value choice! It won't be as responsive as a CRT (nothing is) but you won't find a TFT more responsive and very few close to it...and a lot (like all 24"'s) far more ghosty generally in fast moving games.

OK read that article and found a shop with only one of the Liyama's left. Providential! so I ordered the Liyama. Happy Christmas to me! Will report back on it's gaming performace.

Thanks for the input all.
