Will be use for tv - dvds - xbox360 (and maybe as a pc monitor if any good).

Dont know much about new LCD TVs, specs etc... but comparing the both i have seen that the LG one has 1200:1 contrast compare to the Samsung's 3000:1, both have a resolution of 1366X768, both have a response time of 8ms, both have HDMI, the LG one has also DVI for pc connection compare to the Samsung one which has an analogue pc connection.

I think the LG is more good looking, but that's just personal opinion.

The LG is about 5% more expensive than the Samsung one.

So which one??

I'd be very interested to hear about this one also as I'm facing the same dilemma.

My mate has the LG which has amazing picture quality, but if I'm being overly fussy I think its an ugly box lol :D

Whereas the Sammy is cheaper, nicer looking but have not seen a PC running through it in the flesh.

Opinions?!?!

Ugh? You think the Sammy looks better than the LG? Are you blind man :eek: Sleek black and sexy LG versus the Sammy with a upside down silver triangle at the bottom of every one :p

LG will blow the sammy away in terms of 360/PC usage but the Sammy will beat the LG hands down for telly and standard dvd (ie not upscaled)

Are YOU blind man :D Sammy is MUCH better lookin

I have had extensive use of both, My Sammy 26" was nicked when I was burgled just after they first came out and insurance replaced it with the LG ( as sammy wasnt avialable at the time) and believe me Sammy is MUCH better at tv / dvd ( yes INCLUDING upscaling) and the BIG bugbear I have with the LG is that it doesnt auto switch inputs ( ie from tv to dvd - or scart to componant) which the sammy does.

I also thought the Sammy looked great with VGA @ 1366*768 while playing Serious Sam II

I havent used the LG with a PC so I cant comment, but the Sammy doesnt exactly look bad so there isnt anything to complain about.

And to cap it all I am about to buy a 32" Sammy and sell my 26" LG

Ugh, no danger. LG is *** winrar.

Exactly My point Sammy allllllll the way ( even if you did find a much bigger LG picture lolol)

The plastic speaker grills on the LG make it look soooo tacky

ok... found another one.

SAMSUNG LE26M51B.

It has the same specs with the Samsung LE26R51. But here we have some different functions.

Samsung LE26R51:
* No teletext (need it for keeping up with live scores :cool: )
* DNIe
* Progressive Scan
* 5 sound modes
* Picture in Picture
* 18 language On Screen Display

SAMSUNG LE26M51B
* Mode DNIeTM (Digital Natural Image engine)
* Mode Picture in Picture AV / PC
* 21 language On Screen Display
* Dual Acoustic Chamber System (DCAS)
* Progressive Scan
* Teletext

And i might add, is much better good looking than the two mentioned above... a bit more expensive though. About 60uk pounds more expensive than the Samsung LE26R51.

I actually thought the difference between those two sammys was purely cosmetic?

As for me the LG all the way, it looks lovely (they both do), but for me the functionality also plays a huge role. HDTV is far more important to me, and anything apart from terrestrial TV will be played through the HDMI and DVI ports from the PC either in true HD format, up upscalled. This is where the LG wins hands down.

Havent looked into it yet, but i'm assuming i can upscale my digital freeview too with the PC outputting it to the LG?

Functionally the LG is awful , test it before you buy, believe me the manual input selection is a real pain ( ie pressing remote to go from scart1,>>>scart2 >>> scart 3 >>> hdmi >>> dvi and then componant ) every time you switch on xbox or dvd player and then manually switch back to tv afterwards is ridiculous (imo)

Also side by side I very much doubt anyone can really tell the difference in quality ( if there really is a major one) between the upscalling capabilities of one compared to the other

Remember I have personally had both (admittedly not in a side by side capacity)

Doesn't bother me in the slightest having to manually change the input, i had to do it on all my CRTs before this. And you can't miss what you never had, if that's your 'major' niggle with the LG you have problems. You have also admitted in other threads that you are biased towards the Sammy as it was the first one you had.

I compared the LG and a Sammy before buying, in store with a HD source. And... LG was clearly superior in image quality compared to Sammy. As i said earlier, in HD/Digital Feeds (Component/DVI and HDMI) the LG is superior to the Sammy. In standard feeds (Scart/RGB/Composite/Analogue TV) the Sammy is superior. And that ultimately was what affected my choice and ended up spending more on the LG.

Right now am quite confused. Considering the fact that am gona use it for a regular tv as well confuses me even more. Analogue tv + nova (similar to sky). So, if there's a comparison between these too or similar tvs, would be great. I have google it though with no luck. Not even a single review...

LG=£650
Sammy=£480 ;)

just to add im loving my sammy and using it as my main screen now,, its so clear :) just make sure you auto adjust,, I overlooked that at first,,

MAybe everyone should look at the major thread around here somewhere, not THAT many people can be wrong,

I still think that dvd via hdmi is as good as you will get on the Samsung, on the LG to me it just seems "hmmmmm ok" where as on Samsung its "OMG"

And for the record I have since gone back to a showroom to look at another Sammy with a couple of the discs I have, and its still better than the LG ( even with a showroom's lighting and pretty bad screen setup)

And Windle, there is no need for the attitude - I made a comment about what I see as what should be a basic feature in tv's nowadays and its missing on the LG - especially when most people (from here) will have a dvd player, a pc, possibly an STB for freeview and a console all attached to a tv why shouldnt you expect this kind of thing?

To all intents and purposes both these tv's are nigh on identical in performance terms, and so it comes down to the "small" things that make the difference.

Also I have just bought a 32" Sammy and a Denon 1906 (mainly for the componant switching capabilities) to back up my thoughts

ok.....

I can find LG for 520 and the Samsung one for 490. So price difference aint that great. I was looking around on samsung's site, and i found the newer model of the sammy. The best looking TV i have seen so far. Same features with previous model, only difference is the contrast, 4000:1 to 3000:1 .

GREY || WHITE:

When does this model supposed to come to EU? And how much is gona cost?
I have decided to go with the Samsung one (only drawback is THE RED TEXT --> i have read the big thread about the sammy), but if this LCD TV is close enough at the right price, am off with it.

yeah the red text thing is weird, the only time I have noticed the blurring is in the sig of a poster on here, as shown in that main thread, it only happens with a particular shade of red text on blue background and the thing is it looks ok everywhere else, a slightly darker red coulour shows ok and all BF2 red text is fine so are all pictures and logos such as the ocuk one which is red on blue, :confused: in fact i probably wouldnt have noticed if it wasnt pointed out to me??
