LG 27EA83 clarity issue?

Hi folks,

Just wondering if any forum members had any tips on the issue I'm having with my new LG 27EA83?

Obviously the screen resolution is fantastic, and the colours are great. I've calibrated the screen with a spyderpro 4 and I'm getting the 99% Adobe coverage that LG claim.

The only slight disappointment with the monitor so far is its clarity, when compared with my other monitors (I have a 3 monitor setup). It has a noticeably softer focus than my Dell U2311H, using either displayport or DVI.

I'm wondering if the issue could be fixed by upgrading my display card? I'm using a Radeon HD 5870, which I don't think supports displayport 1.2.

Is upgrading the card likely to bring me any improvement in clarity?

I'm using windows 8.1, the monitor driver as supplied, and the latest ati catalyst drivers for the video card.

Am I likely to get better clarity from a DisplayPort 1.2 connection on a suitable card, rather than the DVI-D one I'm currently using?

Hello Pete,

Have you tried HDMI (if the card and monitor do have that input)? Just to definitely rule out if it is a card input problem or not. Also, do you have the possibility to plug the monitor to a different graphi card, temporary, just to see if it could be a monitor issue?

Otherwise if the monitor as a sharpness setting try modify it and see if it makes any difference.
