I’ve noticed that if my monitor is completely switched off when I boot my PC it won’t display anything when I turn the monitor on, it just goes into standby.

If the monitor is in standby when I boot the PC it comes on and displays fine. It’s not really a problem as my monitor is usually left in standby anyway.

I noticed it because I listen to a weekly show on YouTube and power the monitor off whilst doing so. When I booted the PC the next day the monitor was still off as I’d forgotten to switch it back on.

Probably going to use a screen saver instead of switching the monitor off from now on.

Is it not in any power saving mode?

No I've been completely turning the monitor off using the OSD and then not turning it back on the next day because I didn't think I needed to before booting the PC.

Anyway I've just been testing, I can set the monitor to go to sleep after 2, 3, 5, 10 minutes or however long I want and as long as the Edge YouTube window is minimised it goes into standby which I can get out of by moving the mouse.

Then the next day the Monitor will be in standby ready for the PC to boot.

Of course you need to turn the monitor on if you have switched it off. Switching off cuts the power until switched on again.

I know but you shouldn't really have to turn the monitor on before pressing the power button on the PC case. You should be able to switch it on anytime after the PC is on and Windows has started booting but I guess not.

Oh right, I get your point, I misunderstood. Sounds like a possible handshake issue. Are you using HDMI?

No using Display Port, as I say no great problem I just set it to go to sleep after 5 minutes instead of powering it off. As long as I remember to minimise the YouTube window it will go to sleep, I've tested it.
