Just blew most of what was my leftover Christmas wedge on my first ever 4K monitor the LG 32GQ950P-B, figured at £500 shipped it was worth it for a B Grade monitor. It seems to be a bit of a Marmite display with people, but I have never been too disappointed with my choices in the past.
I had bought a 32" Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75T refurbished from Evilbay, good clear display, but it had issues at anything above 120Hz refresh rate with scan lines, as my first experience of HDR it was to me quite impressive even though it was 8 local dimming zones. Was sat using it about a month ago and the screen flashed a green picture and faded off, it would then only turn on with no OSD, a common fault it appeared after digging online.
My current monitor is a 32" 1440p ASUS TUF VG32VQ, still curved but not as aggressively as the Samsung, it is actually quite a nice monitor, bright and punchy colours but lousy HDR with it being only HDR 400 with no local dimming. Native HDR using the mode on the monitor is very washed out, a little discovery improved that a great deal, turned on RTX HDR and found the colours to be vibrant, although the image was a little dark in less lit scenes. I did calibrate the monitor with my Spyder5 and DisplayCal, the results weren't the best but good enough for what I am doing with photographs now.
Although I have got on with the curved monitors, some of my usage scenarios are not really suited to them, working with photos and Lightwave will be far better on a flat panel. I have high hopes for the LG, more real estate on screen and my 3090 should cope with most of my games well enough, colour calibration should also be better with a 10 bit display. Calibration will be more important with a bargain I just won, a 20kg Canon Pixma Pro 100s, not looking forward to carrying that up to a second floor flat, for £131 delivered I couldn't resist.
