Hi,

Bit of a strange one here. Just come back from a weeks holiday. Monitor had been powered off completely. Started my PC up and switched monitor on and there is a massive area of lines and miscoloured pixels. Looking at it looks like an impact could have caused it, however no one had been in the house. Looking at the panel there is no sign of any impact either. Is it possible for this kind of thing to just happen? Not sure how I can attach images

Are the lines there on the boot splash screen? If so then sadly it looks like it’s toast. This board doesn’t have image hosting, use imgur or similar and post back with the link.

How old is your screen out of curiosity?

That’s definitely been struck by something. Are you absolutely, 100% sure no one had access to the house? That you didn’t freak out and lash out after being owned on CoD?

I've had this just over two years. Bought from OC SEP 2019.
I completely understand why you're asking if it's been hit as that's what I thought when I first saw it. But I was using it last Thursday and it was fine, switched off at wall socket, then turned it on this evening and there it was. There's absolutely no marks on the panel either.

Ok I suppose a remote chance, I've got cats and cat sitter came in once a day for ten minutes or so. It's a possibility I suppose. Maybe cats started throwing themselves at the monitor. Seems pretty remote though. Has anyone seen or heard of anything like this happening?

PS I Joined this forum two years ago as my original monitor had dead pixels and had to get it RMA'd. OC were great about that.

Would say that something has impacted/pressed panel harder at that spot with 99,9% propability.
Simple pressure without signs on surface is enough to damage the LCD layer.

Actually looks almost like if some lines have been drawn across that spot with something sharper...

I agree it is caused by impact. I've put this down to my cats doing something odd when I was away. Bit bizarre though. Screen is totally fubarred.
Getting a new monitor, not quite as an expensive one this time.

Thanks for the replies.

Can't you claim it on home insurance or a credit card insurance if you paid for it that way ?

I was going to go down that road, however, my excess is £350. I can get a good monitor for £280, and from my current experience where a cat can cause the damage I've seen on the monitor I'm not really feeling that inclined to get the same monitor again. Or I could get rid of the cats I suppose.
