I've just put together a new system with a 1080Ti and LG 34UM88 monitor.

I'm trying to figure out the best connections with using the VIVE.

So I have the HDMI output from the 1080Ti going to the HDMI on the monitor.
I've realised that on this model of the 1080Ti there is one HDMI out and three display port outputs.

In order to get the VIVE working it looks like I will have to take the mini display port output to one
of the display ports on the 1080Ti. So that requires a miniDP to DP cable, correct?

I did get a DP to DP cable with the monitor and figured that I could just connect the output
form the PC directly to the monitor and save the HDMI output from the 1080Ti for the VIVE.

The DP input into the monitor seems to be a bit odd and I can't connect the DP cable to it without
thinking that I would have to force it which I don't want to do.
Is there a different input on the monitor as regards DP?

Any thoughts on the above and what the best thing to do is?

Not sure why you aren't using DP with the monitor. DP cables can take a little effort to connect as they have a clip.
When you say "Is there a different input on the monitor with regard to DP", yes, the DP port is a different port to the HDMI one. Please tell me you're not trying to force a DP cable in to the HDMI port.

Thanks for your help on this but I finally sorted it.

The cable that came with the monitor seems to want one end connected to the monitor and the other to the PC.
It went in much more easily when I reversed the connection. I assumed that DP cables would work both ways.

I have the VIVE working now via HDMI and the monitor PC output is via the DP cable which was supplied.
No I never force connectors which is why I was cautious and asked about this.

I have no experience of DP ports or cables by the way. (until now)

Dp cables do work both ways. Not sure why you had a prob. Sometimes it can help to push the clip in a bit as you put it in.
