Anyone who has the LG38 tell me what overall impression was regarding the contrast i.e similar to Dells 30" range or better? This is the main issue that worries me. I actually don't like widescreen models but at 1600p it seems more practical.
Anyone who has direct comparison to Dell 3007HC (or similar 30" models) to LG38 would grateful to hear your thoughts.
I know about some of the other issues regarding supposed fan etc, but can't push myself to 48 as main monitor as too large I think.
Looking to pair with 3080 or 3090 dependent on stock

For what it's worth I use a 50" mid range samsung tv for a monitor on my desk at about 3 feet away and I could never go back to a smaller screen. Though I'm a more casual gamer in the sense I mainly play games with a wireless xbox controller and not first person shooters. But if you've a decent sized desk with enough depth I can't see it being that big of a problem and the benefits of those oleds with the instant response times, perfect blacks, hdmi2.1, quality hdr levels and 120hz, to me seems a much better choice than some 38" with crappy hdr 400 and the pain in the arse of an unsupported aspect ratio. You can also watch 4k hdr movies on the pc using madvr and they look stunning, along with the best picture quality you can get in games. Unless you're into competitive first person shooters like cod, counter strike, battlefield etc, I'd chose a TV every time over a monitor.

Mike I tend to agree with a lot of what you are saying. I think I would have to mount it some way to get back the 20 odd cm I would lose just sitting on desk. I suppose I could get this and try and if I don't get on. Try to find another solution using the Dells and use the CX as the TV above. Perhaps wait until the near perfect monitor appears trouble is it's been nearly 10 years already, and I play FPS games and hate controllers so will be very close to screen.
