60 Inch Plasma TV recommendations?

This device is a 60inch plasma TV with HD Ready properties and fortified by a built in Digital FREEVIEW tuner. The screen resolution of this plasma screen is 1366 x 768 pixels as its peak brightness is 1500cdm2. The contrast ratio of this device is 20000:1 as it comes with a Dual XD Engine apart from 3 x HDMi, 2 x SCART Connections, PC Input, S Video and Digital Audio OUT.
I'm looking for a large screen plasma to replace my rear projection tv. I don't know too much about these but is 1366x768 not very good?

Not on a 60" no

I presume its not 1080p either

At 60" i think you really need a native 1080 panel so the pixels will be smaller so less noticable= better quality.

Whats your budget?

Wouldn't go for a LG Plasma if you can afford not to, they have worse IR issues than the other major Plasma brands. Not critical, but can be annoying.

Ive just bought A Pioneer KRP-500a and O M F G i cant believe how good the picture is I thought my pan px600 was good but this is awesome.
Should have known really as I had a 50" pioneer rear projector a while back that was as good as a CRT.

The only TV better than the 500---- is a 600

Size matters to me, I currently have a huge tv and want 60" or thereabouts to replace it with. The problem with my rear-pro is that it takes up so much room and with the plasma hanging on the wall it would be considerably further away than I'm used to.

well, they are glass fronted. a 50" will typically weigh in at around 40kg. the lg 60pg7000 weighs 55kg without a stand and i cant imaging the pg3000's being much different at all. glass is heavy lol

So what recommendations do you guys give for a supersized plasma (or lcd) screen?

It has to ideally be above 50", 60" preferably. I'd like to be able to run a PC on it too but I understand that plasma isn't the best for that. I'm totally open to suggestions :)

52" LCD Samsung would probably be ideal although if you could stretch to a sony bravia (KDL-52W4500U) ? im not up on LCDs of that size but those would be my choices especially if you plan on using a pc for any amount of time
but if you dont plan on using it too much (pc wise) then a 50" Pioneer Kuro is the one to go for :D I hear nothing but rave reviews and if i had the money thats what would be on my wall :)

50" Pioneer would be nothing short of stunning, the 50PZ80 Panny Plasma is available around £1100 last I checked, also have the higher end models as well. Ideally I'd go Panny or Pioneer though as they suffer notably less IR than Samsung and LG. They're not the cheapest though, with the high end pioneers noted as amongst the best screens you can get atm. Could also look into panels if you just tend to use anything that could be run through an AV kit. You also have specialised companies like Loewe but I've yet to hear any major improvements in anything other than the amount of money that goes out of your pocket over a Pioneer.
At that size I'd also consider the option of spending less on a TV and making a run into AVR as well, so you get a better TV, but also begin to get better sound, as picture only makes half a movie. Going Blu-Ray 1080P 50" and AV surround would possibly give you a greater overall improvement than just going to the larger TV.

Thanks for that but I'm loathe to get into blu-ray because I've bought that many dvd's over the years that I'd feel like I was mugging myself off if I starting buying those too. Probably sounds daft!

I've never really appreciated the whole sound aspect either!

Oh! a decent sound system transforms any TV and the viewing experiences quadruple, I wouldn’t in a million years spend £1k+ on a TV and only use its built in speakers  if that’s what your implying? I would set aside some ££ for a decent 2.1 setup, it will transform your viewing believe me :D :D

Too right, the picture is probably 30-40% of the experience.

Sound makes up the rest!

Possibly not but ignoring the cack All In One kits, you might find a decent set 'does it for you' Hell if sound passes by your head its a lot more immersive than sound all forward!
