LG built-in PLEX app - Cannot connect to PMS

Guys, pulling my hair out with the built-in PLEX app on my LG C7. From web trawling seems it's been littered with issues for some time now.

In short, no matter what I do I cannot get the app to connect to my Plex Media Server. It's there, I can see it, just won't connect to it. I have little understanding of networks and have tried many potential "fixes" but nothing seems to work. LG is hardwired to the router, server is running on a 5Ghz wi-fi connection.

Has anyone got their PLEX working on LG with similar issues?

I'm thinking that a standalone device running PLEX may be the way forward, what's the best device for streaming 4k media via PLEX at the moment?

I don't use Plex on my C7. I use a alternative plex client called XPLAY. you can download it from the LG webstore.

Not sure about how I feel paying for Russian 3rd party software tbh, I know it's only £7'ish but if I need to spend money I'd rather use a supported PLEX app if possible and if I have to, on a stand-alone device.
 
if your having problems with your plex app uninstall it, then reinstall the app it should then be able to pick up your server.
i use xplay to watch 4k ultra hd content, plex is horrendous for that.

EDIT: my plex app works perfectly bar 4k content for that its terrible. so just use plex for 1080p content and xplay for my 4k content works for me
