LG c9 OLED

Panel arrived very quickly, surprisingly a panel manufactured this month so impressive it managed to get across the world into a home same month made!

On balance, do miss the brightness of the Q9FN to be frank. with curtains drawn and in evenings the OLED comes into its own though so Pro's and con's to each for me IMO. Reinforces my opinion, can't wait for the next tech that will combine the brightness of LED's with the benefits of OLED.

Best aspect is eARC seems to work very well. This was one of main reasons for buying. Living room ITX gaming PC connects to the TV, then using eARC from TV to Sony STR-1080, its able to pass through higher rate signals. Getting Nextflix on the PC able to pass Dolby ATMOS through the chain perfect, at same time gaming at 120hz 1440p wit HDR. Do not have a 20 series GPU, but hopefully with next Gen 30 series GPU's with 2.1, should be able to use the full combination of 4k @ 120hz, eARC, G-Sync and HDR. I don't believe the LCPM aspect has yet been implemented (another firmware update coming soon AFAIK), but AV receiver seems to deal with it okay.

Caved in and bought the OLED55C9MLB off Currys with Quidco cash back. Normally like to pick the TV up having had 3 delivered in the past damaged. WFH and being bored is way too dangerous. Just need to tell the wife now though ! Although I did sound her out the other week she said its your money.

I have my TV on a cabinet and my last Panasonic I have it raised on rubber feet as only place for my centre speaker is in front of the tv on the cabinet. The C9 seems to have next to no clearance from floor to TV frame (I didnt realise the silver bit across the front wasnt the stand till I looked at the 360 3d model) can anyone tell me what the distance is between the bottom frame of the TV and the floor it stands on. So basically distance from the bottom of the silver bit to the bottom of the TV frame ?

Is there also any general base settings that people use in the menu, eg picture settings etc before you tinker it further, ie any must turn off/on settings etc ? Going to have a visit over at AVForums they usually list some just wondered if anyone on here has too.

mine is wall mounted, but measuring the base stand which is still not packed away, looks to be around 5-6 cm from bottom of frame to silver base bottom. Note that silver blade on front of tv is only part of stand, significant chunk and weight of it is in part that connects onto the back.

In terms of settings, I think main one to turn off is eco mode. Playing around myself so happy for any tips aswell.

Been looking at risers but I think the "feet" I have for my old one will be enough. Looking through what people have used someone used Xmas presents they didnt like as a TV riser/stand. :)

Excuse the dust, having some building work done this week and it's just impossible to keep on top of!

Thanks, the C9 has just this minute arrived.

Why didnt you chuck a sheet over it ?

Update:

55C9 is set up. Can not believe how thin the screen is. Thought there was a blemish on it till I realised it had a plastic cover on it. So far no problems with it. In the end I used my old Toshiba TV subwoofer as a riser it made a perfect platform for this to sit on to raise it enough for my Marantz centre speaker. Wife: this TV looks bigger than the old one, (Panasonic 50") Me: Oh no it just looks bigger because its a little higher. :D

Must be new stock too 55C9MLB its got the latest firmware on from March.

OK, so my E9 was just delivered and there appears to be film on the screen and the back of the TV. The film on the back is obvious, but the front it's not that obvious at all.

Nothing I've seen in the manual I've seen mentions it nor the unboxing videos. Have I missed something or was it just obvious to everyone else??

3 Weeks in and my C9 still has the screen protector on. We've wall mounted but it needs to come back down to perm route cables and adjust height when the new Sonos Arc arrives.. You can see bubbles in during the day if you look hard enough but really can't see them at night.. Its staying until the perm fix is done.. A tradesman managed to put 3 chips (the shape of a plug) into the screen of a 50" Kuro years back.. So lesson learnt

I agree about the front, although I didn't no about the rear until it had been up a couple of weeks.

*sigh* you lot are a bad influence - gave in and ordered 65C9 from John Lewis this evening.

Wallet is in mourning - i'm excited although delivery is not till friday! :D

Once I'd removed all the packing I saw the red tabs at the bottom for the front screen protector :o but there wasn't anything for the rear. So I can totally see how people miss this. Odd LG don't indicate like the do on the front.

Finally got everything setup late last night. Problems with my UB900 (displaying its control panel image that you couldn't switch off) and having to reprogramme my harmony remote. On that note I feel LG cheapened out a bit by not including a proper TV manual, the likes of which you get with Panasonic.

Very pleased with the picture and TV overall, the wife was impressed which was nice (that never happens). I've still got to get to grips with the settings, but that will come in time. My only gripe is that I didn't get a new UHD film to watch that the wife hadn't already seen, something to really show off the TV. In the end she let me put Thor Ragnarok on (she doesn't really appreciate Marvel films) and it looked awesome. I now feel like I need to rewatch all my favourite films.

hahah. I thought same on blemish part. The film had a slight scratch, spent 10 mins cleaning it out only realised next day when I removed the warranty sticker which caused a bubble the entire front had a film on. :p

looking above though still missed film on the back panel.

can tell manufacturing date by serial number. First digit is year, so 0, second 2 digits are the month, so 05 would be manufactured in may. Would not surprise me if it’s new stock, mine was only manufactured this month, seems they can move and ship quickly.

There's a Dolby app in the LG store which has a few trailers and videoclips that really show off the image in Dolby Vision. Used to put that on whenever friends came round to show it off.

I also was certain there was a film on the front - but incredibly worried I was trying to peel off the screen itself. :D
It definitely did have a film that needed to be removed. :)

I also (this replacing a plasma) was massively paranoid about how thin the whole thing was, and whether we were going to break it as we tried to put it in place.

If you've got Disney+ their nature documentary about elephants looks absolutely immense. Even my wife - who generally refuses to admit there's any difference in visual or sound quality no matter what you change - was extremely impressed.

Thanks, I've been mulling over Disney+

I'm looking at possibly renewing our sky package, so I may get that too. These TV purchases become expensive!

That was how I found it from the top sticker and saw the bubble. Mine is 05 so really surprised that its new stock.
