LG G5

I can understand the position you take because my parents take the same approach. But as this is a tech enthusiast forum, not a buy something and just plug it in and use it forum, you have to expect some push back from the community around updates and extra features. As a tech community people will generally like having extra features and fixes, even if they're happy with the product out of the box. Maybe this was once you but not so much any more which is why you joined 14 years ago..? I have noticed myself become less enthusiastic about tech as time goes on. Hell, I used to re-install Windows every year to keep things running perfectly, but now I'm running the same version for years, initially installed as 8, then 10, and now Windows 11 without fresh installs and through lots of hardware changes. It's ok to have this frame of mind, but on a tech forum you gotta expect people to push back against it lol

Wiim added Room EQ feature with firmware update, that is well worth it. Also it's possible updating app on the phone will require you to update firmware on the device itself.

I wouldn't have bought a Wiim if it didn't have that room EQ feature. It was also a free upgrade.

On top of that Wiim fixed a couple of Squeezelite bugs I reported to them within a couple of weeks.

Yes you're right, as I've got older, I just like things to work. And I've been burned quite a lot by upgrading things for no real reason.

I also think tech is just in general less exciting than it was. Like in all honesty except for being much brighter in a dark room, I can't see a massive difference between my G4 and the B7 I used before :/

I expected the push back and I can understand why.

There's definitely diminishing returns there.

I honestly still remember the first time I ever powered on my first B6 OLED. It was just amazing how everything looked - And I'm talking about the setup menus and just seeing pure black on a TV.

I've since had a C9 and then a G2 and they were both incremental improvements in some ways, but they were still OLEDs at the end of the day and not massively better overall, just in a few key areas.

Taking into account this recent discussion about updates, could it be argued that updates should always optional and never forced? I've seen many comments by people in AVF who have suffered all sorts of problems with the Samsung S90C updates, although personally I've not had any issues.

I expected you to say brighter in a bright room as well. The biggest upgrade though will be coming from size and potentially if you watch a lot of HDR movies.

I mean the B7 had HDR too.

It’s better in a bright room but I never found the B7 particularly troublesome.

I’m not saying it’s not better, just that I can see how the B7 will work for my parents (who now have it) for another 10 years. I am sure this is the same for others.

While I do really like my G1, if there's a nice slim, wall hangable Samsung QD-OLED I'll probably switch to that next. The menu's are soo horrifically slow on LG's and I couldn't give 2 tosses about Dolby Vision.

Unfortunately I've heard Samsung are just as slow and both are because of all the advertising, analytics and data reporting :(

When I use my G5 for pc gaming I use FMM with game mode turned on but for some reason it switches me to the game optimiser picture mode every now and then. It does it sometimes when I load up a game and when I power off the pc. I have got user settings set up on FMM, Vivid and Game optimiser picture modes for pc use but it seems to be defaulting me to Game optimiser.

Any ideas on how to stop this?

not sure but the deal Richer Sounds has on I've pulled the trigger on a 65". It'll replace my C2 55" which we'll now put in the family room

Just checked and knew I should have waited as thought there might be a better deal! :p Didn't really need the sound system though as already got sonos beam gen 2 and sub.

Got mine for £1789, have to agree with some of the posts above, there isn't a huge difference in quality between my e7/2017 and this, main improvements that are noticeable is for hdr/brightness content (when it gets pushed...) and darker areas with lack of blotchiness and better uniformity etc. I think the motion looks to be better handled ever so slightly too. But the size upgrade from 55" is very nice.

I don't believe you have a OLED. Can you show a video of yourself with a glass hammer hitting your screen, saying "I'm Nexus18 from overclockers"

:D

I'm waiting to see what the 83" will drop to as that's the one I want. Upgrading from a 65" CX OLED. Hoping I can get it for close to £4,000.
