I just bought one of these a few weeks ago in Hong Kong. I'm usually a top of the range type of guy but I couldn't be bothered waiting for Dell's awful delivery times over here. Anyway, I saw the ips236 in a few shops for $2500 HKD and I really wanted an IPS monitor, I tried to search up on some reviews and what not while I was there but not much came up. Even the techies there didn't know much about it.

Just sharing on some thoughts about this monitor with you guys as I know a lot of you here are looking for new monitors etc etc. I'm not any good at doing reviews, feel free to ask any questions or request pictures/info.

Colours: After some fiddling the colours were vibrant as ever.

Blacks: There is a function to turn blacks high or low. This is only available when using HDMI otherwise it will be greyed out. The blacks was affected by the LED backlight as it seemed to be a tad strong. But as soon as I turned the Blacks to 'low', the blacks was SOOOO black! Its so black that sometimes it will take out the detail of dark objects, but it also makes other colours look a lot nicer. I liked the blacks too much to turn the feature off.

LED Back light: It seems pretty evenly spread out but you can see the light seeping out some areas while on black colour. I will take a picture with lights off when I get the chance.

Ghosting: I play all types of games and there is no visible ghosting or anything similar.

Input lag: Seems to be none, I could tell there was input lag on my Dell but not this one. Its very responsive.

Stand: Tilt but no height adjustment.

Size: 23 Inch
Screen: Anti Glare - comparing to the Dell U2711 (saw it in person) the LG didn't have the problem that people were talking about that the Dell had some sort of crystallized coating making the screen look a bit (I don't know) Funky?
Resolution: 1080p
Backlight: LED
Panel: IPS
Refresh rate: 60hz
Response time: 6ms
Plugs: 1HDMI, 1D-Sub, 1DVI, 3.5mm Jack for built-in speakers.
5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio

Sorry about crap grammar n stuff, if I've missed anything let me know and I'll try my best to answer.

Hopefully OCUK Will stock these soon!

Excellent - thank you for your impressions. LG are due to get these monitors to the UK in March with any luck so expect some more views there. I hope to review this or another monitor from the series ASAP :).

I've seen a few people link this forum thread (translated), where a few owners there are unhappy with these new LG IPS LED models.

I've not actually bothered reading that yet so I don't know what specifically they're unhappy about, but apparently they're worse than say the Dell U2311H.

Still, if you're happy with the monitor, then that's what counts :)

It's a bit of a slog but one of our readers purchased an IPS236V and was unhappy with it compared to his XL2370. You can read the super long transcript here if you so wish. I am hoping that some of the issues raised can be corrected with enough fiddling and/or that not all of the monitors share these issues. If the latter is true then it won't do much for consumer confidence in LG's panels or monitors.

Looking forward to your review PCM2, im sure it would help out a lot of buyers out there.

crackbear, from the sounds of things people there don't have the monitor yet apart from 1 person that I can remember. He said there is some slight bleed on the lower right corner, which is the same at mine! Maybe there could be a firmware firmware fix for this or something :D.

maybe he should take a look at the black levels using HDMI. My opinion, the colours are as good as the Dell apart from the Blacks.

I have bought the LG IPS236v-PN without seeing it operating, and I have nowhere to see it operating.

So could you please tell me:

1. Are there any lights in the operating buttons of the monitor (those 6 point-like touch-buttons)? I know that other models by LG that have a similar-looking button interface do have lights in the buttons - and in my monitor, there are no lights!

2. In all the pictures, the "On" button's light is shaped like an arc - but my monitor's light isn't shaped like that. It is shaped like a pointy dot - much less pretty than the pictures...

Both of these issues make me wonder whether my monitor is faulty - or maybe even the whole production batch (first edition) is faulty, and has the defect?

This is why I ask here and want to hear what is the status for your monitor...

And by the way - do you have any clue what is the difference between the IPS236v and the IPS236v-PN models (note that "PN" isn't written at the front of the monitor, but only on a small label on the package, and on other places on the package, "PN" is not written...)?

Thanks.

I'm about to pull the trigger on three of these for eyeinfinity. I was hoping someone might have some experience with these in eyeinfinity. How do you hook them all up? Just three mini port to HDMI cables? I have never done it before so just wondering if its possible with these monitors
