This is a daft post so I will apologise in advance.

I went to a local PC shop this morning to check out the Philips 200w6cs monitor before I bought it online, I wanted to make sure it was the one I wanted before I committed to buying. Anyhow, when having a look around I noticed a 20" widescreen LG monitor, like an idiot I did not note the model number. Since I got home I can not trace it anywhere, including the LG website.

It was definately a 20" widescreen, 8ms response. It was not the M203WA
LCD TV but looked similar, basically the same design but without the integrated speakers on the bottom.

Anybody any ideas ?

I can't get to this PC shop for a while to check again.

Yeah that's the one.

Anybody got one, anybody know how it would compare to the Philips 200w6cs ?

Fancied the Philips and was pretty confident of getting it until I saw the LG.

well the guy above you should be able to tell you how he finds it :) Once thing to bare in mind is that the LG L203WT is a TN Film panel, and so wont offer the all round performance that the Philips 200W6CS (S-IPS panel) will. It depends what you're using it for really. The LG has a nice design, but i think the Philips would be a better all round purchase

Likely I would only be using it for gaming and browsing internet, no multimedia really.

Damm, was sure I would get the Philips but the LG just oozes good looks in comparison, the Philips should do away with the speakers !

well the LG should still be fine for gaming and office work anyway. Is there much of a price difference? If so, go with the Lg if you prefer the looks, i think that's an important aspect :)

The LG was on the cheaper side by £30.

Interesting that nobody appears to be selling online as yet.

I might have to pay the shop another visit and get them to line them up together, not that there likely to help, but I can ask.

havent really had time so far to give it a good test and i dont play a lots of games anymore on the PC which is good as the 1680 x 1050 resolution is abit to high for games on the 6600 GT card i have

pretty certain, yeah. If you look on their spec page here the viewing angles give it away, listed as 160 / 160. They were a little over exagerating with the 170/170 shown on the spec list at CEBIT (picture i posted further up) but 170/170 is still indicative of TN Film nowadays. If it were 176/176 or 178/178 then it would be different,. but i'm pretty sure it's a TN Film panel

TN panel, also confirmed by many users because of the characteristic TN signature of turning the screen black at ~45 degree angle from below the monitor (or when you stand up from the desk). As you may suspect, viewing angles on the TN panel are not that great. That response from LG is maybe related with the L2000C (20" non-wide) model, which is indeed S-IPS. With the front desk support personnel, you never know really.

Also, not so long ago LG announced the TN panels with the rather unusually high contrast ratio (software controlled) and that would explain the high contrast in the spec.
