Hey guys,

Just to clarify how do I on my CX getting 5.1.2 Atmos sound AND 1440p/120hz from an RTX 2080.

Is this the right way to do it..

HDMI 1 - to RTX GPU HDMI port.
Display port from RTX GPU to AVR (say HDMI GAME).

Then on the LG TV, I switch to HDMI 1, and ask windows to output sound to DenonAVR via display port, and then switch AVR to GAME?

Seems like a bit of a faff but a fair compromise. I'm guessing the AVR does not automatically switch?

The AVR would only switch (sources, I take it you mean) if HDMI CEC was enabled all the way through the signal chain. Later versions of DisplayPort include the option of CEC in the specs, but whether a graphics card manufacturer implements it is another question.

HDMI includes CEC as standard. Have you thought about swapping the connections over as a test?

Edit: Denon AVR3300 as per your sig is pre-HDMI, so either the sig is out of date if you have an ATMOS capable AVR or the model number is wrong.

I have a denon 3300X .. its supports atmos.

I missed an X off in my signature.. lol.

The best way would be to have a hdmi eARC receiver. That way plug the GPU into the TV to get 120hz / Gsync and all that jazz and Audio set to passthrough on TV and it will pass atmos and LPCM through to the receiver.

There is another way and I use it for my other setup which does not have eARC or anything like that. Plug one display port (or hdmi) cable from you into the monitor. Then plug another HDMI cable from GPU intotinto AV receiver. You will get a phantom monitor created to represent AV receiver. You can select that as the place for your audio while your TV can display the video component. You will still be able to select Gsync and higher refresh rates fine. I would try this method and see if it works. Couple of posts in this thread I explained it in more detail: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/av-receiver-with-pc.18885265/
argh i dont think 3300X has EARC.

I can just buy an 8k hdmi 2.1 AVR.. and give this one to my parents.

EARC isnt possible... cos I have a CX and it doesn't have DTSX so I need a proper solution so I don't need to worry about the passthrough of DTS content (I could just get the media player to decode it but.. im lazy to change settings).

I think I'll try your second method in a bit and see how it works out. TBH im struggling to find games to 1440p/120hz. They either work at 4k/60 or seem to hover around 1440p/60-80.. so the faff of plugging and unplugging seems a bit redundant :D

Hey guys, so I've tried this. HDMI port 1 to HDMI of the PC for 1440p 120hz
Display port 2 to HDMI of the AVR.

LG OLED configured to pass through audio. Using HDMI port 1 to use the PC, I can see everything. In windows I've set audio to go to the denon AVR, but no sound from my speakers unless I select my AVR from the HDMI menu. Any solutions?

Figured it out.. had to manually switch the AVR to get the audio working.

Does anyone know if its possible to get the HDR over the display port cable? It would mean just cloning the display twice which would make this whole thing so much less finicky. I just want to clone the display via my denon AVR and my LG OLED but it seems to not think one if HDR when the other is plugged in... annoying...
