Ok, I've been looking for a new phone for a while. Like lots of people, I saw the Apple Iphone, and wanted it. However its not out for a while, and my contracts up for renewal, so I was initially looking to upgrade to the N95 for the time being. However then I spotted this little gem.

Out of the box, all I can say is wow. This phone is so slick and well tought out. The phone is so small and sleek it fits perfectly into the hand, and will slip un-noticed into a pocket. Something my last two 'bricks' a p900 and a XDA mini S didn't.

The menus are a work of genius. They all gel easily into each other with a nice flowing movement. Ok so for the features. Its got a 2 megapixel camera, a fm radio, mp3 player, bluetooth and micro SD slot.

Here is a video of me cycling through a few menus and stuff on the phone. Sorry its a bit out of focus. My camera doesn't do close up videos very well.

Ok, thats all the pics for now.

Can't wait to get some films and DVD's on it. It comes with a 256mb microSD card. Not much gonna fit onto there.

When its finished charging I'll plug it into the PC and see what I can get it doing. Love to see what some of the games are like.

Iphone. why wait. :D

That looks really nice mate, good job i sold my 8800 Sir this week :)

Anyway where was if from and whats the cost ? I ask because on the 02 website is under coming soon.

How's the phone for texting? Is it a hassle using the touch screen for everything?

Looks very nice I have to say, I'd probably need to use it before I decided to abandon Sony Ericsson though!

[edit]

Also, any chance of an update in a few weeks when you've been living with it as your everyday phone?

wow. that looks stunning.

how are you finding the touch screen for messaging? is there an on screen keyboard? or are you using the handwriting recognition the most?

also any idea what operating system its running? symbian or uiq 3?

v.nice phone mate!

Os - no idea. Take a look at the vid. Its not like anything else I've seen (Iphone aside)

Texting was my main worry. Its the first thing I tried when I got hold of one. It isn't a qwerty keyboard as I was expecting. Its actually a T9 style keyboard with multitap. It works fine. Will take a bit of getting used to as I'm used to a full qwerty on my xda. There's no handwriting recognition, and there's no stylus. Its all fingers. The screen doesn't register a stylus.

Its currently only on sale at the Carphonewarehouse. It was £40 on a £35 18 month O2 contract. Or £260 on a 12 month £25 contract. It should be at O2 shops on monday.

Can't help, but think the iphone's going to be more of the same, but better.

fini

Definitely as this doesn't run osx ;) It looks like a very nice warm up though and it should get a good eight months use before a trade in :D

Ok, some more pics.

The World Clock.

The Calendar

Memos. This is the same interface as for text messaging. One thing I can't find at the moment is how to do a carriage return. I'm guessing you cant, which is a bit annoying when taking notes.

The rather snazzy calculator

With all the scientific trimmings.

Voice recorder

'My Stuff'. Interface for viewing files stored on the phone / memory card. Its not like a file explorer. Things have to be stored in the right places on the memory card in the right formats to be visible from here.

The camera. Really good to use, however it suffers from the same shutter lag that all phones I've used have. Press the button, and you get a message saying 'Focusing' and the square goes green, then a second later the image stops moving and the square goes red to show you've taken the picture. Then as usual with phone cams the picture it actually captures is about a quarter of a second after that image freezes. Definately not a replacement for a digital camera, but perfectly functional.

The camera has loads of options. It would have been nice to have the flash on a quick button instead of having to go into the settings.

Here are two pictures taken by the camera. The quality is extremely good. Perfect clarity. If I'm picking straws I could probably say its a little over exposed on the second picture. But then the white balance is manually adjustable by a slider on the camera interface.
