LG Question

Have a look at LG's web site. Type in "Musicflow" (all one word) to the search bar. It'll bring up all LGs products that support wireless rear speakers. http://www.lg.com/uk/search.lg?search=musicflow

Musicflow is LG's attempt at doing what Sonos does with multi-room e.g. the Playbar and Play 1/Play One speakers as rears. The rears can be tasked as surround or as multi-room. LG is doing the same.

As far as I can see, LG doesn't seem to offer much in the way of a conventional wireless rear speaker kit in the UK any more. Does it really have to be LG?

Thanks both, will look at that link.

No it doesn't, it's just I misread the description and have an LG SH4D arriving this week but ideally I'd like wireless rears (although I've never had a soundbar so I don't know how good the 'virtual' surround is.)

I'm open to alternatives, max budget would be ~£250 however so maybe I'm best off sticking with just 2.1? The SH4D was £168, I missed the Curry's sale.

Edit - Budget wise, I don't mind if that's for the bar and sub only as long as I could upgrade to wireless rear at some point.

Wireless rears tend to be a bit of a Curates Egg. When they're cheap enough to be an attractively priced add-on, they sound pretty crap. But when they're made to sound good, the price ends up being high and so for the same or less you can buy a much better system - albeit wired.

The other disappointment is they're rarely truly wireless. Mains power is required, either on one or both speakers. If it's just one speaker powered then there has to be a wired link to the second speaker.

Then there's the quality. The wireless links often use a lot of compression. Sound quality takes a hit.

The only company that seems to have tackled all these problems with any kind of fresh thinking is Philips. Their Fidelio B5 sound bar has rechargeable rear speakers that dock on to the main sound bar. When they're removed they can run for a claimed 10 hours in surround mode. These are genuine wireless rear speakers. The sound is good too by all accounts. With an RRP of £550 and a TSP of £500 I think Philips has a strong product compared to the traditional wireless surround sound bars from other manufacturers. It even manages to look good too.

I know this doesn't help you with with your LG other than to suggest not wasting any money on LG wireless rears.

I've got the Samsung HW-MS650 and the rear speaker kit, it's really good. It replaced an entry-level Onkyo AVR and speaker system and it's been a nice upgrade, the rear speakers feel like they have a wider sound to them than the Onkyos did so you get the benefit of them without having to be sat in a specific place that they're aimed at.

That said, it'll be beyond OP's budget.

Hmm, so I guess maybe my choice is to stick with what I've ordered and live with 2.1 or move to a wired 5.1. I think the SH4D is a pretty good deal, am I likely to get much better with my budget? If I ditch the wireless requirement?

Don't "wireless" speakers need power cables? If so they're not wireless. Would you rather have two power cables, or two speaker
cables?

Stick with wired IMO. Just trail some thin speaker cable, once it's done you won't notice it- and you'll save a packet, it'll sound better too.

That's sort of what I'm thinking of doing, I realise wireless speakers still need cables but as I have power sockets in the two rear corners I was hoping to avoid running cables from the front all the way around to the back of the room if there was a reasonably cheap, good quality method of doing it.

Any recommendations for a 5.1 sound bar system or for my budget shall I just still with what I've ordered?

So the of soundbar has arrived, I'm unsure whether to send back or not.

Does anyone have any wired 5.1 soundbar system recommendations where ideally I could buy the bar and sub now with a budget of around £250?

Thanks for your help so far.

If you can still find it, the Samsung K-450 can be upgraded with wireless rear speakers. You might struggle to find them though as I think the soundbar is end-of-line.
