LG TV Resolution

I have an LG 49SM8500PLA TV that I drive with a PC, using the TV as a large monitor for games and films.

One thing puzzles me though. The native resolution of the TV I believe is 3840x2160. But the computer shows two resolutions, the native resolution and 4096x2160. Thing is if I set the native resolution, the TV displays the picture with two black bands down the side. What "I think" is happening is that any input to the TV is being treated as 4096x2160 even if it's the lesser 3840x2160. I don't really understand why it would do this. I understand why it might offer 4096x2160 but what I don't understand is why, if it's native resolution is 3840x2160, does it display that with black lines?

AWESOME! You are amazing. Tell your boss to give you a pay rise. That has been annoying me for months.

OH! It also cured the problem with VLC player being 1 pixel smaller than the screen in full-screen more. ( another issue that has been annoying me for months ).

So, to recap - the problem is that various apps are screwing up and taking the highest resolution of the TV as the native resolution ( despite the fact that Windows itself is correctly identifying the native resolution), which causes them to send out a silly picture that has black lines and or the incorrect aspect ration. Using an EDID editor you can delete the offending resolutions so the highest resolution IS the native resolution, and all the apps are happy.
