Basically yesterday i booted up my pc, all fine and dandy, but my LG1720B monitor was stuck in power saving mode, on standby. Now i thought this was odd, i do the usual things like move the mouse around press the keyboard to see if it comes on, but nothing.

So i then tried an alternative monior, a 17" CRT which worked. I then tried my LG1720B on the family pc downstairs, and it works fine on that, the pc boots straight up with everything showing on the monitor, and it doesn't go into standby. I then reattached the LG1720B to the original pc and it worked first time, after shutting the pc down and rebooting it.

However today, it has happened again, i repeated my exact steps and it is constantly i standby mode, except now i have tried three seperate monitors to the same pc and they are all stuck in standby mode with the amber light on.

I booted my pc up with the side off to see if there was a problem, and the graphics card appears to be working as i can see the fan spinning.

I have tried alternative power leads, and each monitor has its own connector.

Running an

AMD 64 3000 skt 754
Abit KV8 mobo
1G Ram
9800Pro

Any help is much appreciated, knowing me its something blatantly obvious that ive missed.

it shows nothing, you can hear the pc booting up etc, but nothing appears on the monitor at all. So it just goes into standby mode, as if there is no signal going to it.

If this is the graphics card, what would be the best AGP version to get , i would have say a ₤100 budget. if this is the case, i would take the oppurtunity to upgrade from my 9800Pro.

Try a mates graphics card first if you can, no point buying a new card if it won't sort the problem. I'd probably buy secondhand if I was getting an AGP graphics card now, a 6800gt or X800XT will both easily be within your price range, probably somewhere in the region of £70-80 but if you have to buy new your choices are limited, maybe a 7600gt if you can find one cheaply enough.
