Hi thanks for looking.

I currently have a cooler master ml120l v2 cooling my ryzen 7 2700x and despite mixed reviews it keeps the ryzen at 60c with the pump and fan idling.

I'm looking to upgrade to a i7 12700kf with a asus prime Z690 P D4

I'm faced with 3 questions. Will the cpu cooler fit lga 1700. It says it's compatible with lga 2066, 2011, 1151, 1150, 1155, and 1156.

Second question will it be adequate to keep a 12 gen i7 cool?

If not I'm gonna have to spend £150 atleast on a new cooler. Which is outside my budget unfortunately! So I will have to go with option 2 a i5 12600k which is not what I want but will have to do.

3rd question will my current cooler work with a i5. If not I'm looking at a corsair icue h115i elite. But again I'm not sure if it will work with lga 1700.

Please help.

Thanks.

1- Some of the new Z690 mobos have 2 holes so will fit 1200 and 1700 brackets. I think the Asus mobos are the only ones with dual holes but you would need to check.

2- No. It would be ok when idle or doing office tasks but as soon as you did anything cpu intensive it would not be upto the task. With power limits removed and all 8 performance cores running at 5 ghz the I7 12700 will be using 350w so no 120mm would be upto that task. If you go for 12th gen I would advise you to get a 360mm AIO such as Lian Li Galahad or Artic Freezer II which has a thicker rad than most AIO.

3- i5 12600k is a superb chip and more than enough for 99% of people. Does not have insane power draw and is very good -

Brackets will soon be available for all the major AIO so just give it time.

Thanks for the info. I think the i5 will do nicely as a few of my favourite games rely more on single thread performance as he points out in the video the i5 is good at. Hopefully by the time my money is in the bank they won't have been scalped the f out of.

Thanks.

Even if you went for the i5 it would advisable to get a new 240mm or larger AIO. Even the i5 has a potential power draw in excess of 250w but it would never reach that without removing power limits and would thermally throttle if you used inadequate cooling

Your 120mm AIO is ok for some chips but not high performance Intel ones tbh.

Yea I don't plan on overclocking it or removing any power limits. It's only ever gonna be used for gaming. Do you think 260mm will do. And avoid thermal throttling.

Thanks.

Gaming doesn’t really use that much power tbh. You could maybe get buy with an i5 and a 12600k.
