Hey folks.

Looking to upgrade my motherboard. No real reason other than as my PC has been upgraded over time, I've never even considered upgrading the Motherboard.

I currently use the H81m-P33 from MSI, its been excellent, overclocked the G3258 like a pro and its bios is clean and simple.

the down sides are that it only has 2 ram slots and with me using 2 x 4Gb modules im already full.

Im now using a core i5 4590 with a Raijintek Aidos cooler (so fairly compact)

What do I need to look out for with this possible "upgrade"

Im using a Corsair 88R case and its likely that the current Mobo will be recycled along with the G3258 into another rig for other stuff down the line.

If anyone could help with what id gain by going for a more premium board then it would be appreciated... as looking at it ill be gaining very little!

The i5 you have I am sure you are aware does not overclock so while a Z87 or Z97 board would be a good choice a non Z series chipset would also work.

As you want more ram slots I would say either a Z series or a B85 series, or a H97 would work well.

Have a google about, sadly OCUK don't have much of a range anymore but other companies still do.

Yeah overclocking isn't on the cards, nor will it likely be in the future should the 4590 make way for another CPU.

Thanks ill have a look at the B85 / H97

About the only thing you gain by changing motherboard is being able to use faster ram and for that you want a Z87/Z97 board. Otherwise just stick with the board you have or get a B85 board (Gigabyte B85M-D3H is a very good board). H97 boards are priced similar to Z87/Z97 boards so seem rather pointless.
